Audi discontinues A3 Sporback E-Tron for Europe

Even though the A3 Sportback e-tron is one of the most fuel efficient models in their lineup, Audi has decided to axe the model over the introduction of the new WLTP. BMW, MB and VW have all had difficulty with these new emissions standards, and sales of the plug in hybrid compact hatchback have never been that stellar. According to Audi they still plan on 20 different e-tron models by 2020. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/autos/news...ron/ar-BBPWUiK

Sales would probably be greater if they hadn't have made this model exclusive to the UK. I think part of the issue is the fact that the Audi hasn't really made any significant improvements/revisions to this model since it was first introduced back in 2014. The UK government has also recently discontinued its 2500 plug-in hybrid grant

A lot of grants seem to be going away and that's mostly due to the fact that a lot of automakers have begun to hit their cap on number of units sold. EV's no longer cater to a niche audience and adoption rates are going to climb significantly over the next few years.

I think the technology has finally reached a point where the range and charge times have become much more manageable for the average driver. And Audi specifically has done a lot to ensure their newer EV's recuperate as much energy as possible back into the battery.

Employment package that include incentives to getting a greener product will become a growing option as these more public credits go away.

The car ownership model is shifting and a lot of newer electrics are likely to be released under subscription services. As depreciation is a big concern with EV's there will probably be a fair amount of interest in these kinds of plans.

10-15-20 years from now I think we'll come to realize that without these programs, most vehicles to be released wouldn't have been possible another way.

It's really the only way to make these premium EV's models more approachable for the average consumer. And there is such a huge discrepancy in utility between entry level models and what we are seeing from Audi.

It really benefits car makers and lending institutions.

Charge by the hour to get nearly everyone, even some 16 year old that works minimum wage. By that standard, lots of money is left on the table.
