Overview

Entering the market as a bold new product for Audi and EV fans is the all-new Audi E-Tron SUV. Although information is currently limited to the below, as reservations being Fall 2018 expect to see more on pricing, specifications and configurations. Arriving early 2019, some of the key features we should see coming to market (as seen in the prototype) is; a 150 kW high-speed charging system, All-new electric quattro® all-wheel drive, Long-range capability with 95 kWh battery, ample cargo space and towing capacity, a 9.6 kW AC charger (Level 2, 240-volt/40 amps) home charger for a full charge overnight, and more. In addition owners shouldn't suffer from range anxiety with a growing network of 15,000 public charging stations.

All electric. All Audi.
The first fully electric Audi - an SUV charged to go the distance.
Audi e-tron® prototypes are undergoing testing in all conditions on four continents to prove they’re worthy of the rings.
  • 150 kW high-speed charging
  • All-new electric quattro® all-wheel drive
  • Exhilarating acceleration from dual electric motors
  • Long-range capability with 95 kWh battery

Go Far
The first purely electric vehicle from Audi will offer long-range capability, room for five people, and ample cargo space and towing capacity.

A large 95 kWh battery offers long distance trips on a single charge. The e-tron® will be engineered for both AC and DC charging via the widespread SAE Combined Charging System (CCS), and can utilize 150 kW DC high-speed public charging stations that provide an approximate 80% charge in about 30 minutes. At home, a 9.6 kW AC charger (Level 2, 240-volt/40 amps) is designed to deliver a full charge overnight.

Advanced Driving Dynamics
Quick acceleration provided by two electric motors creates nearly instantaneous torque — and an unparalleled driving experience. An electric motor is placed on each of the axles, distributing power more efficiently. The new electric quattro® all-wheel drive helps provide exceptional control and confidence in a variety of driving conditions.

Positioned low in the vehicle to enhance driving dynamics, the battery pack is designed to be compact and sleek.

Charged To Fit Your Life
The Audi e-tron® will be designed to be charged in a manner that best suits your needs. At home, wake up to a fresh charge by conveniently charging overnight. If you’re on the go, you can rely on the growing network of over 15,000 public charging stations with over 39,000 charging outlets equipped to charge your e-tron®.

Charging

Helping to complement everyone's busy lives is up to 80% charge in about 30 minutes using high-speed public charging stations. Once on the road regenrative braking contributes up to 30% of the vehicle’s range back into the system. Official range numbers haven't been produced but expect north of 250 miles, especially as Audi configured the E-Tron with a 95kWh battery to last on long distance trips, all on a single charge. Beyond all of this real world practicality performance seems just as impressive. We get Autobahn proven performance that according to Audi has no problem handling repeated accelerations and high speeds.

Leading The Charge
Audi e-tron® will be engineered to charge with 150 kW DC high-speed public stations using the SAE Combined Charging System (CCS). These high-speed public chargers can provide an approximate 80% charge in about 30 minutes.

The Audi e-tron® will utilize a dedicated cooling system which helps keep the battery operating at an optimal temperature and ensure repeatable performance.

Having undergone extensive crash testing, the solid casing of the 95 kWh battery is designed to enhance security in the event of a collision.
  • 150 kW charging capability
  • 80% charge in about 30 minutes
  • Go the distance. The e-tron® battery is rigorously tested to perform for a long duration.
  • Cool under pressure. Liquid cooling enables effective thermal management to help optimize battery performance.
  • Autobahn performance. The battery pack is designed to handle repeated accelerations and high speeds. (Always obey all speed and traffic laws.)
  • Proper protection. The specifically engineered Audi frame technology helps create rigidity to protect the battery from damage from below.

Sound of Silence
The e-tron® offers an exceptional acoustic experience — or lack thereof. Masterfully designed by Audi sound engineers, the near-silent motor, sound proofing, dual pane windows and special sealing to reduce road and wind noise all add up to a sublime ride from start to finish.

Regeneration
The Audi e-tron boasts a one-of-a-kind regeneration system. Regeneration helps the e-tron recapture energy from 90% of braking applications and is designed to contribute up to 30% of the vehicle’s range. The e-tron has variable regeneration modes via the steering wheel paddles that allow the driver to optimize their range depending on where they’re driving and the efficiency they want from the vehicle.

Design

Design, while not a complete departure from Audi's current design language, there are design features distinctive to this upcoming E-Tron SUV. Fortunately all this time we've been seeing a production-ready looking prototype, 250 of them being put through their paces. Making the E-Tron what it is today is, optimized drag and noise under extreme conditions, 3 million miles and 85 000 hour of rigorous testing, decisive aerodynamics that both add form and function, a conveniently placed charge port, Audi virtual cockpit and three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, ambient LED lighting accents and more.

The World Is Our Proving Ground
We’re taking the e-tron® prototype to the streets to demonstrate its capabilities. 250 test vehicles are being put through their paces in a series of rigorous challenges under extreme conditions. We’re doing electric properly — the Audi way.

As much as more specifications would great, the most important thing is potential buyers have enough to make an informed and educated decision.
Tesla set the tone and the parameters for electric cars, along with Chevrolet and Nissan, so the public has a general idea of what to expect, now its just waiting for your favorite brand to launch one.
