The E-Tron employs a familiar design language from Audi, but riding on a brand new platform, the German automakers first electric SUV boats some impressive performance numbers. While it isn't the fastest new electric crossover to join the segment, even the slowest of EV's deliver sprint times that were previously reserved for supercars.

With two electric motors, the E-Tron has a total system output of 355 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. Should owners find themselves looking for more power, this electric SUV also has a Boost Mode increasing those figures to 402 hp and 489 lb-ft for up to 8 seconds. Thats enough to propel the electric crossover from 0 to 60 mph in around 5.5 seconds. Top speed has been electronically limited to 124 mph.

In comparison, the Model X and Jaguar I-Pace estimate hitting 60mph in 4.5 seconds. Mercedes has set the upcoming EQC at 4.9 seconds and BMW claims their iX3 should come in at less than 5 seconds. With only fractions of a second separating these newcomers, the future of electric propulsion is an exciting one.

In an effort to reduce drag and improve aerodynamics, the E-Tron is among the first production EV's to implement digital side mirrors. There are some caveats however, as this feature will be reserved to an expensive optional pack and wont be road legal in many countries around the world (U.S included). We expect these kinds of features will be the first of many as automakers look to reduce drag and improve overall efficiency.

Although the E-Tron isn't Ludicrous Mode fast, it's smooth, quiet, comfortable and peppy for a family car. It exudes a level of elegance and sophistication that one expects from Audi and does so with the hopes of further normalizing EV's.
