Hi there,

New to this forum and had a query about the installation of a Commando 32A socket, to be used with the Audi Universal Charger (or 'brick' as I've seen it being called here).
Any assistance/advice on the spec of the Commando sock which needs to be installed? Does it need to have an RCD etc?

Thanks in advance,

Welcome to the forum.

Installing a Comando soket is really no different to installing any other form of outlet. You will need a spare slot on your consumer unit for the RCD (or an additional unit) and apropriately sized cable which will depend on the length and where it runs (free air or insulated environment). It may also need to be armoured depending on location.

You are allowed to install the soket and cable yourself but will have to get a Part P certificate issued by a suitably qualified proffessional to register the installation and connection.

This is a well-trodden path now and represents a value for money alternative to a full EVSE setup.
