you aren’t concerned about creating a water/moisture channel along the wire?
I had done something similar with an old pair of jumper cables, but once i had it all in place, i figured i shouldn't give water a seemingly direct route to the 12v so i removed it. Maybe i'm being too cautious.

Would be great if there were a way to route the cables into to the main cabin. that's beyond me though.

The battery is definitely in the front as shown in my pics. They must have accessed an electrical line connected to the battery in the rear trunk area. But the story the dealer told is weird.

Funny I was just looking at some schematics for the car. They show the battery in the front and a fuse box for the high-voltage to low-voltage charging circuit in the rear. I think this is how the big battery charges the little battery. I bet this fuse box gave them a direct connection to the 12v battery, and they charged it from there.

The dealer story doesn't sound exactly right, but it came from the service advisor who may not have heard things correctly from the service tech.

The cable I installed dips down before it goes up to the battery. Additionally, the 12V battery is not completely protected from the elements anyway, just as in a regular ICE car. There is a flimsy plastic shield over the whole area that isn't water tight.

Yes, I realized that too but my concern was that if i left the cables permanently attached, i'd be making it easier to 'complete the circuit' to the battery if water got into those cables.

I admit i am no expert here, but it didn't seem like a great idea.

Ah, yes. Thats why I got a waterproof cable with rubber locking cover over the end that is designed to be left attached to a battery outside. I think they use them for golf carts and motorcycles.

Yup. This is exactly what my two motorcycles have. The cable dangles under the seat … so its constantly getting wet during any riding I do in the rain (which is surprisingly a lot).

if there was a way to charge the 12v from the trunk that’d be very helpful!

I'm happy to report that the car is now alive and well and sitting in my garage. I've only driven it about 30 miles so far, but wow do I love this thing. The Kemora gray is an awesome color, and the gray interior matches it perfectly. I've had a bunch of Audis, so I generally know how everything works, but this car is really different than an ICE Audi. I'm not quite comfortable with turning it on and off yet. I love the accelerator response, which is sedate and controlled, until you punch it. I slammed my head against the headrest the first time I tried that lol.o_O I'm still working on getting things set up, but man this is a very cool ride.

Yes its just an incredible car. Its the only thing motivates me to get to the gym every weekend....just another excuse and reason to drive the car there!

Plus, the lighter your weight, the faster it goes, lol!!

Help me out with my installation. I thought the charging points to attach battery charger per manual were different than the terminals on battery themselves. When I looked at my setup I found the positive charge point under the red rubber boot can be unscrewed and a M10 eye connected to bottom and then screw back in body and the negative ground paint can also be unscrewed and M10 eye can be connected and then screwed back in. Manual had warning around connections to battery directly? I am going to do same thing you did, install the charger cable and wrap connector in plastic so it is accessible if I ever need it without unlocking frunk, but, I am going to use the charging point bolt and the ground point bolt. I will make sure loops to drain water (thank you). What do you think about using the two bolts in picture. Thanks all.

I hooked up directly to the two leads on the battery rather than using the ground point. When charging the battery with jumper cables they tell you to connect the positive clamp to the positive terminal and the negative lead to the ground point. The traditional rationale for that is to avoid a spark on the battery terminal that could ignite hydrogen gas from a conventional lead battery. But lithium batteries don't release hydrogen gas. So I don't know why the manual issues the same precautions. Since my charging cables are already connected to the battery, I plan to connect the charger to the cables before plugging the charger into the wall. I don't think this will create a spark at the battery surface. Since the ground point and negative lead of battery are connected anyway, I don't see any other rationale. But I advise you to follow the manual and use the ground point as they instruct. Also, be careful to not fully disconnect the batter terminal leads when you attach the charging cables or you might reset the car electronics.

Did your car die? Or is this just prep for the future?
