The Prime and Plus services are by subscription.
Correct, I am still trying to find a way to have the eSIM moved between carriers. I believe there is some federal law (trying to find it is like sifting through water) prohibiting carriers from locking SIM cards and guaranteeing transfer of mobile numbers between carriers. Whether that applies to in-build modems is a separate question ... With 2019 Edition One I drive, having WiFi in the car means paying 499 / 18 months of Prime package and then on top of that 299 / 12 months of unlimited WiFi. That (if math serves me right) comes to ~53/month + taxes and whatnots to have WiFi in the car. I wish they had an option of enabling just WiFi - that I could swallow but I do not feel like paying for Alexa (I do not use it), better maps (look, Google Maps works for me better anyway) and sign recognition or red light warnings (I have eyes, I can see pretty well). I will end up likely buying a portable hotspot with my current carrier and just calling it a day. It comes cheaper and I can use it outside of the car. I will, though, get my hands on the care antenna assembly and use it to improve the hotspot reception, but that will have to wait until warranty is over and I can get my hands dirty
