In a very appropriate publicity stunt, Audi recently sent their new electric SUV to a Switchgear plant in Berlin, where it was zapped with many megawatts of electrical current. These simulated electrical storms have no effect on the cars functionality, but I'm sure it did it's job in creating some hype for the Audi e-Tron prototype which will see its official launch next year.

It looks even better in the new press image of the E-tron being zapped by the simulated electrical storm. Good to know nothing would happen to me if by some 1 in a million chance my car gets zapped by lightning. Also helps to take your attention away from the E-tron's mileage. At 248 miles, it pretty much meets my daily drive needs and the odd car trip, but its rivals like Tesla’s Model X and Jaguar’s I-Pace does have longer range at 295 miles and 298 miles respectively.

I remember always being told that the safest place during a lightning storm is inside of a car. Not sure I'd want to test that theory out on purpose though. The e-Tron's range seems to be fairly similar to what BMW has accomplished in the new iX3 concept. I doubt that we will see any improvements on those figures in the production models, so I guess interested buyers will have to determine if that meets their needs.
