Compare with Macan and Q4 as my lease is ending

My Q4 lease is about to end, well, soon enough that the dreaming and scheming can start anyways. . . I have a Q4 now that I upgraded halfway through that lease from the Q4s sister the ID4 and am thinking I'll upgrade to the Q6 to get a little more polish, lux, higher on the product line, etc. when this lease ends. But that raises big questions about its brother the Macan by Porsche. Anyone able to help me out here? Am I going to have serious unresolved envy? Do you have experience with more than one of these cars? Anything and everything you can tell me is appreciated. The Porsche is really appealing but getting it optioned up puts it so far above the cost of the Q6 as to make one wince. Thanks!

Q6 does, it’s the B mode now comes to a complete stop and holds automatically. Not Tesla or Polestar level of refinement, but a good first true OPD for the entire VW group. Neither VW nor Porsche yet offer it it. Downsides are you need to manually select it each time, it doesn’t remember the setting between drives, and it’s not quite as smooth coming to a stop on hills. That’s all based on a comprehensive test drive. It’s much better than B mode in the ID.4/Q4. I was originally a skeptic, but since getting a Polestar a couple years ago, I’m a full blown OPD convert and would never buy a car that doesn’t have it.

I recently swapped a Q4 for a Q6. I liked the Q4 ride but was frustrated by its software. Had a Tesla 3 before that and liked the software but not the ride. Love the Q6 so far. Ride is smoothe, quiet, with great acceleration. The size is a bit bigger than I usually like to drive but the software with lane assist and truly adaptive cruise makes up for that. Plus it plays nice with CarPlay which was not the case for the Tesla.

I didn’t test the Macan. Cargo area too small for my needs. The Q6 seems to be just right in that regards. And good towing capacity in the unlikely event I need to pull a trailer.

Range is better than the Q4 both because of a bigger battery and also more efficient energy use. Still not the 400+ miles I’d really like to see but at 300+ plenty for the driving I do. Of the three EVs I’ve had this is the first one I might actually consider keeping beyond the 3 year lease.

Hope that helps.

I test-drove the Macan EV, SQ6 Prestige and Q6 Prestige.

They may all be related because of VAG and the PPE platform, but that's where the similarities end. The Macan EV I test-drove was head and shoulders above to SQ6/Q6...and perhaps I'm shortchanging the differences. The acceleration, handling, and overall drive felt far more sporty, far more powerful...and the seat were more high-end.

With that being said, some of the Macan EV's driving aids like backup camera seemed like afterthoughts at best. There's no way I would spend Macan money if it didn't have the latest and greatest.

Which vehicle would I pick? I'm thinking SQ6 Sportback, or maybe just a Q6 Sportback. Either way I'll get Prestige. I'm weighing the differences in seats, range, plus the availability of Ascari Blue in the SQ6 vs the Q6.

I personally think the Macan EV is the better vehicle for a few reasons.

1. Still has manual HVAC controls instead of touchscreen control.
2. NAV screen still behind steering wheel like Audi cockpit used to have.
3. Space for optional spare tire.

I don’t know if Porsche has the same annoying problems that Audi has but in my experience they seem better put together. I think the Porsche quality control parameters are not as relaxed as Audi. If you don’t option up the Porsche with crazy options it’s still more than the Audi but not a lot. If your Porsche dealer is known to have strong customer service that may make your decision worth the extra money. Do your research on dealer reputations. It’s time well spent.
