While Audi's upcoming electric SUV may lag behind a bit in terms of range when compared to its competitors, Audi claims that will be a non issue. They think their one of a kind recuperation system will make all the difference. This system will have three different modes, which can be selected by the driver depending on their needs. These include manual coasting recuperation using the shift paddles, automatic coasting recuperation via the predictive efficiency assist, and brake recuperation with transition between electric and hydraulic deceleration. Audi claims that up to 30% of the range can be generated with this system.

Coasting with any significant distance will be quit annoying, particularly if you have a line of traffic behind you, or want to get caught up at the next light. I don't want an electric car knowing I'm handy capped by nonsense.

Agree, and it will drive people further away from products like this. What people essentially want is a more eco friendly version of what they can already buy, but with more tech. It won't help that these will be marketed as "performance hybrids"

Yeah I'm not sure whether or not having so much of the E-Tron's range being reliant on regen is a good thing. It'll work on longer journeys, but I'm not sure how practical that will be with inner city commuting. Need to learn a bit more about how it works.

The descriptions of the systems are quite complicated, but hopefully they also don't function that way. I'm hoping that a lot of it will be automated, without needing much interaction/oversight from the driver. Learning whole new driving characteristics just to maximize range, seems like a step in the wrong direction.

I don't know why they wouldn't just utilize adjustable levels of regen like we're seeing on most other electrics. While I understand that this model has been designed to recuperate a lot more energy, if its not intuitive it's only going to deter interest in the model.

This segment is going to become increasingly crowded, so unique features/designs will become all the more common. I would like to see some daily driving tests, which showcase just how much energy can be regained with regular use. I have a feeling that the E-Tron is going to really only be practical for inner city use.

When it comes to features, if they want to help encourage people to drive these on long distance trips then introducing solar panels will be a good idea.
