There is a section of hard foam below the grill, I guess it’s to stop bits getting in.
You can not access it from under the car as it’s protected so can’t of got damaged by anything coming up from the road.
its so weird, Audi says they have no idea and are just replacing the part.
I assume it’s foam to keep it light in weight. Every KG counts when the car is so heavy with the battery.
It has never seen a jet wash or a drive through car wash.
I clean it myself with the 2 bucket process and a standard slow water hose.
To be honest I thought it had been left on by mistake as it looks and feels like the foam things are wrapped in to stop them moving around in the box. I thought it may be packaging! But I looked at the dealers and the other Etrons on the forecourt all have it. Unless it is packaging!!?? And they have all been left on.
I can say though it does not look a piece of body work you would expect to see on a $120.000 car!

I'm in the US and got my etron in December 2019. I checked, and, yes, my car has that foam strip...but it is all in one piece. I garage the car and have taken it through a touchless car wash once and the dealer has washed it a couple of times and that strip looks fine.
