Garage Door Operation Slow to Initialize

6490 Views 16 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  naa
I find my garage door button is slow to initialize on car start. I'm backed out of the garage and have to wait what seems like several minutes (I have not timed it) before I can close the door. Returning home it's no problem. The door responds ok. I have the function set up on the * button on the steering wheel. The garage door radio is new, rolling code type.

Anyone else having this issue?

Never ran into this issue myself.
Have you checked the owners manual? The PDF version I believe is available online or by emailing your dealer might have troubleshooting info.
Owners manual no help. Customer Service Rep at dealership said they have a lot of problems with this function. Taking the car in tomorrow for this and another issue. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue and they won't be able to help. I'm hoping to find out if there are any tech bulletins from Audi on this and get my experience fed into the system.
Dealer checked out the car and said they could find no problem with the garage door opener. Also, there were no tech bulletins on this subject from Audi. I suspect this issue is deeper than the dealer can test for. Hopefully they will report this instance to Audi. In the mean time I'll continue to use the conventional remote. For me, it's not a big issue, just an annoyance that something as simple does not work reliably.

Similar issue. I also program the * button for garage door, but it works initially once and then loses the programming for that button.

I am having the same issue. I have it programmed as *, and have noticed that the dedicated button on the MMI is perfectly reliable, works from a longer range, etc.
Same here. Gave up using the * button shortcut for the garage link when first starting up the car. Takes some time for the software to initialize so the shortcut to the * steering wheel button works. Pushing it from the MMI screen works every time.

Mine works fine, can back out of garage and click * button right away. Perhaps delete your home entry and reprogram the Homelink again?
This drives me nuts. Have the car about a week and liked have the button right there. But until the lower mmi screen is done “initializing shortcuts” the * button is useless for me. MMI always works. I’ve tried reprogramming it and no luck. @Bill33525 , you can start your car, pull out immediately and the * button works? Odd. Does the lower MMI still say initializing shortcuts when it works? That takes like 45-60 seconds for me.
Entered the car applied the brake and pressed the ON-OFF button. Then quickly the steering wheel "" key, the car was initializing, nothing happened but my car initializes in less than 5 seconds so after that can open the garage door with press of the steering wheel "" key. Would suggest you have the dealer investigate the long initializing time on your car. My car finishes initializing just shortly after the welcome jingle plays.
@Bill33525 thx! I’ll try deleting all shortcuts and see if the initializing delay goes away. I appreciate your reply.
No luck with deleting the shortcuts. I did see lots of the same issues in the Q8 in other forums so we’re not some (and likely means not going to change). Oh well.
Will the car eventually initialize inside the garage? Have you noticed if the car initializes faster outside of the garage?
Perhaps stop by the dealer and see if their demo initializes fast. Ask why yours is slow initializing.

I have been living with the same condition. I don’t think it’s bug, but most likely a slow processing. I usually pull down the shortcut for the door rather than wait for the * to activate. The shortcuts are instantly available

Similar issue here too. I program it.. it works for a few days, then loses it.

Yes, same thing.. and it looses the code and I have to reprogram it on occasion! May call service
Can anybody in the UK confirm if the UK spec car has Homelink included in the car's spec?
