Just switched from a BMW i8 to an RS e-tron GT and don’t miss the i8 one bit ?m(although admittedly, the i8 is more unique)!

 

I’ve searched guys, and what I have found is that boost mode is only available during launch control, correct?

The added boost can’t be applied when stomping the accelerator, you have to go through the launch mode sequence (which isn’t too complicated, but nevertheless more steps then just smashing the go pedal lol)?

 

How do you perform launch mode? I haven’t read the manual yet.

 

First you have to build a ramp and then you floor it!

 

How was your experience with the public chargers?

 

Yeah, I'm curious too. I drove from Philly to Dayton Ohio a few weeks ago, a trip that Google said would take 9 hours & it ended up taking 17, due to the time spent looking for an available (and working!) charger, plus the actual time charging.

 

Interesting, the i4 M50 was the car I almost bought and instead got the RS etron gt on a good deal. If production wasn't so delayed from BMW that is what I would have. I am curious why you decided to change to the audi. Would you be willing to describe comparisons between the cars and what you like / dislike on each?

 

I tend to go through cars rather quickly. Bought the i4 M50 in January 2023, so 8 months ownership. The i4 M50 was great and rock solid. Very fast, but not as nimble/agile. Loved the one-pedal driving and having boost available at anytime (no need for any extra launch control steps). I wasn’t crazy about the front end (let’s be honest, but then again, we have an iX, so go figure) and the pedestrian exterior styling, looked like any ordinary 4er grand coupe. Interior was nice, but the vernasca leather was a bit weak (I’m nit picking here), I’d rather it had BMWs newer sensatec vinyl.

Then again, one can’t compare a $79k i4 M50 to the $158k RS etron GT.

I’m still taking it easy with the Audi. Love most exterior angles of the car, and the interior with full leather/alcantara is beautiful. I do like my carbon fiber glossy however lol. As mentioned above, I do miss one pedal driving, and I’m trying to get used to Audi/Porsche’s preference toward coasting as being more efficient. The 2 speed transmission isn’t as seamless and somewhat clunky, and my brake pedal makes an inconsistent “clunk/clack” noise that I think is related to the brake regenerative option. However, the Audi is just so special and has such a presence on the road. I love it! And moreover, the incredibly insane deal I got it for, one could say I stole it!! I mean crazy lease deal!!

And speaking of leasing, I wanted to unload the i4 M50 sooner rather than later and get back into leasing, especially these BEVs as they seem to depreciate even more quickly.

$664 base monthly, with no money down…the $2k was the typical lease start up fees (acquisition, Audi care, doc, etc.). Without a doubt, definitely a unicorn!

Just saw this thread. Interesting because I have had my GT with performance package, in Daytona Grey, for two and a half years (lease up in six months, buyout will be much too high) and am considering the i4 M50 next. I have loved the GT, and to this moment think it's the most beautful looking exterior on the market. But technology shortcomings and glitches, somewhat cramped space, average seating ergonomics (for me), terrible peripheral visibility, the perpetual glass roof (too intense in the summer), and its tire-eating qualities have left me a little disappointed. My wife just picked up a BMW 330e, which got caused me to get acquainted with the M50, and it just seems like a more comprehensively designed EV sports sedan. I love the Audi brand but am seriously considering the M50.

 

After living with my GT for the past 3 months, I still feel the same as I mentioned above when comparing the GT to my previous i4. That is, I really do miss the 1-pedal drive and solid brake feel when needed, instant boost, smoothness/quietness, and overall driving dynamics compared to the BMW. I always find it interesting the marked differences between my GT and feel from driving my wife’s iX.

That said, my GT is so special, unique, incredibly quick at speed, and gorgeous. It also handles great. The interior materials w/full leather is also superior to the crap leather in the i4 IMHO. And then of course, you obviously can’t forget the deal and what I paid (I mean stole it for Lol)!

Believe it or not, I need to start planning on what I’ll be replacing the GT with in the coming months if I plan on a custom build. As much as I love changing out my cars, I would consider an i4 M50 again, as I’m curious what the LCI will bring in July ‘24. I really wanted to love the i5 M60, but performance-wise it is nearly identical to the i4. Do I dare admit I’m also curious about the Tesla Model 3 Plaid (yikes!). Or I might just wait it out the last minute or extend my GT lease up to 6mos and be on the hunt for another “unicorn” deal.

Overall, I would recommend the i4 M50, but I think after owning at GT, you’ll miss the attractive design and specialness. Not until BMW comes out with their dedicated, genuine ///M quad-motor 3er (or whatever they end up calling it) will I be eagerly banging down their door to take my money!

Insightful comments. My GT still makes me smile in so many ways. It is everything you have mentioned and very easy to live with as a daily driver. I’m in upstate NY and will say that it’s probably the best car I’ve had in the snow (with dedicated snow tires). On the other hand I’ve too often felt like a beta-tester on this early version (Summer ‘21) and the service people were at a loss on dealing with the glitches. Overall it’s an exciting, innovative, and boldly designed performance GT.

 

PS can’t agree on the Teslas. Audi and BMW EV sedans are performance cars that happen to be electric. Teslas to me are like sophisticated smart phones that you can drive. Not in the same league. 😊

 

Adding this cousin to the stable tomorrow…2024 CT4S, gotta make room. She’s sitting high, hopefully lowest setting fixes that a bit. The deal I got, dare I say, is even better than my RS. I’ll share more tomorrow, assuming it goes according to plan

Congrats I picked my 24’ GT last week. How is your back up camera resolution on the GT? I think mine has issues.

 

Yesterday I grounded the lease and turned in the car. I can’t believe it’s already been a year since I flew out to OH to pick up the car and immediately drove back 500 miles to PA. Overall, my RSGT was flawless and it will be missed.

Dealership where I grounded the car told me they are sending it back to Audi bc Audi wanted $93k for the car and the SM said that’s what he would initially retail the car for. Residual was $109k

Just logged on to my acct and received my final bill (disposition fee) from AFS. Was surprised the tax rate on the disposition fee was based on PA 6% sales tax and not the 9% used for the lease. Nevertheless, paid and acct is closed.

Wow! You can lease a new one with an adjusted capital cost of 11%-12% and $20,000 incentives right now. Might as well get a new one at that point.

 

How’s that taycan treating you? My rs gt is almost up and eyeing a similar vehicle. I even thought about the i4 m50 since there’s some real good deals on remaining 2024s but coming from the Gt it may just be underwhelming.

 

I’m still loving the Taycan. It has such a presence and the handling is phenomenal. Not as quick as the etron GT RS, but the sum of its parts makes up for a better overall car IMHO—if you get one, just don’t settle for the base. It just looks so good. That said, it’s not perfect (no car is), and does seem to have a bit more hiccups than the Audi. Just little things that come and go, like screens not loading up, a phantom warning here or there, but thankfully mine doesn’t seem to be affected by major recall (HV battery). I’m sure by the summer I get bored and will consider transfer the lease, but I’m torn about at this point.

Unrelated, but this past weekend I did just pick up a new 2024 FIAT 500e clown car as a beater. I wanted a small 3rd BEV to tool around in, and for $17/mo, how could I pass it up! Lol

My last car was a G80 M3 Competition and I honestly miss it. The carbon fiber seats, sound and handling can't be matched in my Audi but I like it for different reasons. I think build quality between Audi and BMW are similar except my M3 didn't have any squeaks compared to the Audi which has either a squeaky center console or seat, unsure which. I can definitely feel the heft and weight of the Audi and the funny thing is the rear will slide out on acceleration vs the M which was more planted in 4wd Sport. Did not expect that with the 11.5" wheels and 305s on these cars! 😅

 

Can’t say I really miss my former G82 M4 Competition. I’m too addicted to BEV now. But I am excited for the quad-motor ///M
