Had my E-Tron for just over a week now, and I still haven't figured out how to open the bonnet / hood. I know there's a lever on the driver's side near the pedals. I've tried pulling it in every direction I can think of. Nothing. Tried it with different combinations of having the car unlocked / locked, engine off / on, doors closed / open. Still nothing. Whatever I do, the bonnet stays firmly closed with no gap to put my finger in to release the latch. Google search didn't help. Have a feeling I'm missing something obvious that I'm going to kick myself about, but what is it?

You just open the drivers door and place your hand behind the lever and pull straight out. That will cause the hood to pop. Then place your hand palm down under the hood opening and slide the safety latch to the right.
pat least that’s how we open the bonnet “. hood “ on this side of the pond.
you need to leave the car door open to disengage the main lever though.

Ah thanks, the key was having the driver's door open. Thought I'd already tried that but obviously not!
