Privacy settings - vehicle not transmitting data

Hi

(2022 Q4 e-tron, delivered Jan-23)

I'm not able to control anything or get any vehicle status (battery, charging, etc) from the App or at myAudi website. This is a new problem this week, it was working before. The only change (I think) that I've made is to install the App on a second phone using the same myAudi ID, as secondary driver function is not working/available.

Specifically, each info panel on the app shows a shield with a lock inside. On the myAudi website, at the top of the screen there is a status message that shows the same shield+lock and says:
"Privacy settings: one or multiple services are disabled in the vehicle and not transmitting any data. You can change the privacy settings in your vehicle."

So in the car I go to the MMI and select Settings > Privacy. The headline setting "Activate Privacy" is on, which means that the detail settings can't be changed: fair enough. However, it is not possible to switch "Activate Privacy" off. I can slide the switch off, but it immediately returns to on.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Well, I seem to be alone with this problem (maybe no one else has activated privacy? - don't). In case anyone else runs into this, here is how I managed to fix it.

The first symptom is shields with locks in the App, and it telling you to go to Privacy Settings in MMI and deactivate privacy. The next is the refusal of the Activate Privacy setting to deactivate. Slide, slide & hold... it just slides back to On.

To fix it, select the Guest user profile and apply the settings. Then go back to Privacy Settings in the MMI and, as if by magic, you can now deactivate Activate Privacy. At this point, pick up the phone, slide down on the car page of the App, and all the status info appears (charge level, etc) and lock icons are gone. I've reselected the primary user profile, and it still seems to be working.

Thanks for putting this up! Same has happened to mine. Will see if it fixes it!

I think we have no PIN set, so maybe that creates a problem. I could try this, but maybe not now as I've driving 700km tomorrow. Also, it will drive us crazy to have to enter a PIN every time to drive the car.

re my previous comment that this is fixed, it is not. The app connection disappears after the key user is selected.

Thanks

I don't know if this helps:-
I set my privacy setting on when I first got the car and then after a while I got so peed off with putting the PIN in every time I got into the car that I turned it off again. Now the car just assumes that the key user is driving unless I change the user. The disadvantage is that it potentially exposes your contact numbers and texts to anyone using the car. I haven't checked to see what it shows if you get in the car without your phone. That's one to try tomorrow.

I’ve got the exact same problem on my Q4 e-tron delivered end of march, in Norway. This happened a week ago. When i try to disable privacy mode it immediately slides back to on. Have spoken to the dealer, and they will take the car in and hook it up to their systems and check for faults. Dealer’s technicians had never heard of this problem before. If anyone has resolved this please let us know

Not fixed for me. We are just living with the fact that the user management and app don't work. If we need to use the app (e.g. when charging at a public charger), I activate the guest profile and disable the privacy. The car is good, but this whole user / app thing is a disaster.

The audi specialist that helped me with the settings told me the only way to turn the privacy off is to do a reset on the MMI. But you will need to go through the configuration wizard again. But then when it ask you that question about privacy settings during the wizard have to remember to leave it off.

In regards to the app not reading while in different profiles, that is also true as it will only syn with the user who was initially setup with the key. And since Audi only provides 1 key card which means the app will only link to one user. It is seriously a stupid design. I deleted my wife offline profile so we would be able to share the same app and see the settings through the app. Luckily our key fobs are programmed so it changes our seat memory base on the fob and not the user profile.

After 5 problem free months I’ve just started having this issue and have no idea what triggered it. The privacy toggle is on and I can’t turn it off. Thanks to this thread I’ve logged on as guest and disabled it so I can still access the app for remote management. Looks like a trip to the dealer unless somebody has found another fix?

That doesn’t explain how the privacy setting in the car has enabled itself, and I can’t disable it - which is stopping it sending data to the app and my energy provider controlling the car to enable smart charging. And it’s also not down to the app that logging on as the guest user, in the car, allows you to disable it as a workaround (log back on a key holder and it enables again) - so the app can send and receive data again.

You just described so beautifully what I'm experiencing that I can't wait to go out in the dark driveway and test your solution. The amount of other comments that ended up going to dealers is terrifying.

So I have now tried a number of times, and at different locations in order to be in better 5G cover:

  • remove key user
  • remove account
  • restart / reset MMI
  • delete car from Audi app account
  • restart car
  • readd car
  • enable data and all other settings in car
  • set up MMI
  • readd account into car.

Nothing works.

car simply adds my account, and then reports that: user profile was successfully created, but could not be activated due to a technical error.

all settings gets wiped after a restart the car, and MMI tells me: make this Audi your own… and every settings defaults back.

Called Audi digital, they have a 24/7 service, chap was very polite and tried the same things via a video share over my phone but we end up in the same place.

Case is now logged with Audi technical team and waiting for feedback…

I havent read all the above but I too recently experienced issues with communicating through MyAudi eventually somewhat fixed by disable the privacy settings and remove/reload myAudi and is now kinda working where I can set charging and climate control but cannot read mileage and other detials.

why? no idea, I think Audi sent out an OTA update and scewed things up..........all was well previously.

I did not go to the dealership (its ~100km away and dont have high confidence) or contact Audi.

I’ve had this privacy settings issue since I collected the car in April 23. Only solution I’ve found is removing my profile and re-adding it. This means you lose your favourites and other settings but it’s certainly quicker than speaking to those goons at Audi technical who haven’t a clue. I tried the fuse thing too and that didn’t work for me.

I have removed the key user, my profile, restarted MMI, removed / re added the car. Same thing happens. User profile cannot be loaded due to a technical error.
The car when I restart it, completely forgets every setting, for example data communication is fully off.

it’s annoying, and i can’t work out what the issue is.
