I get round the problem with the charging starting immediately by setting a timer in the car as well as on Octopus. Charging then commences according to the Octopus schedule and I am not wasting up to half-an-hour of charging at peak rate. Obviously the charging percentage limit set in the car must be the same or higher than that set on Octopus.
Incidentally, the Octopus app used to show the amount of kWh put into the car over the preceding 12 hours, but mine has stopped doing this. Has anyone else noticed this?

I think they probably know how much the car is taking because they have access to both the car and the chargepoint, although I'm certainly no expert.
I must say I'm impressed by the savings you are making on exporting to the grid.

You have to give Octopus permission to access the car. Octopus then schedule the charging time to finish charging when the set percentage and finish time are reached. The off-peak rate is between 11.30pm and 5.30am, but if it can't finish charging within that period it will start charging prior to 11.30 but still charge the off-peak rate.

No idea how it works but it is really clever.
