I've had my RS Eton GT for the last 18mths and have enjoyed the car. It's super quick, feels lighter than the weight it carries, and if charging at home, definitely cheaper than petrol to run. Charging at fast charger... probably more expensive though.

BUT... I rarely use the power. On shorter journeys where I don't need to think about range it's normally around town, local roads with traffic preventing burning through those electrons with fun. On longer journeys with an opportunity to enjoy the power... I don't as worried about the range. On these I often find myself putting it in efficiency, driving very sensibly, challenging myself to keep getting the needle onto 'charging' just to eke out enough to get to a fast charger, and that's a boring drive.

Oh.. and don't mention Oct - Mar in the UK, where the rubbish heating, significantly reduced range and waiting in the dark at public chargers just amplify all the shortfalls of EV life today.

My conclusion is with the UK charging infrastructure where it is (so many are broken or charge slowly), a big uptake in standard EVs, and the current e-tron range, it's just not quite there. 400 miles on a charge and it's a game changer as those longer trips can all be done from a home charge, and public charging becomes a once a year event on a mega journey.

So, after 3mths in the dealer with the heating being repaired I'm about to press the button on a new RS6, as a return to the dark side.

I'm also worried that holding on much longer will mean mega depreciation as in the last few months all EV's seem to be suffering badly and even Audi admitted the Eton GT is suffering too.

I think this is a very fair assessment which is becoming a more popular view hence over the last few months EV sales are down and ICE sales are up. I have a Tesla Model Y and although i recognise the E-Tron GT is by far the better car in every way, the Tesla has better range, much better charging infrastructure and is more reliable than the Etron GT/Taycan. Due to similar concerns i have to you, i have cancelled my Etron GT and instead purchased a 1 year old G82 M4 Competition and i will be keeping my Tesla Model Y. I will eventually come back to the Audi E-Tron GT and leave Tesla when it makes more sense to do so. Enjoy the RS6!

I have recently ordered a GT (Quattro not RS), and have done it through work as salary sacrifice. This removes some of the issues you mention, in my head. I’m coming from a Model 3, so it’s inevitably going to be more expensive in terms of monthly payment and charging costs (absolutely essential to have a charger at home, and Intelligent Octopus helps too), but it still makes sense to me. I deliberated for ages and actually had an Ioniq 6 on order. But I’m fed up being sensible. I’m nearly 50 and the opportunity to own and drive a car like this doesn’t come around often. I certainly would not be able to afford it if I was buying or leasing privately. So I fully understand your decision. Good luck with the RS6, always said I’d buy one of them if I won the lottery!!!

All valid reasons to switch to a different car, other than the depreciation. I never quite understand this reasoning. Cars in general are not an investment. they are always going to depreciate. EVs seem to hold their value longer than ICE cars, too.
