Congratulations to you and your wife getting your new e-tron S! What convinced you to switch to electric from the SQ8.
A few things: I picked up a new Escalade with the Duramax Diesel... so any out of town/road trips will always be in my rig (which most of the time means pulling the boat along with us.) The Escalade was also the MPG winner between the two (it gets 20-22ish around town and 32 on the highway... so it was the natural choice for anything of distance.) So her SQ8 was used for hauling the kids to school, swim, and runs to costco and safeway. Traffic here sucks, so it was pretty rare she had the opportunity to enjoy the 4.0tt in the SQ8. The e-tron S wasn't out when we purchased the SQ8...and the normal etron was too slow for her (coming from a Jeep SRT). So the etronS coming to the US finally gave her the option to skip the gas station, have a car that matches what she uses it for, and not give up performance or sport looks (her SQ8 and the etronS look nearly identical... both White w/ black optics, Prestige, 22" wheels, etc. Most people won't even know she got a new car. Lastly...(and sadly), Audi sort of ruins the SQ8 driving experience with extremely aggressive efficiently management. The car is programed to maximize every drop of petrol and it gets annoying and disruptive. If you read reviews of the SQ8... the press calls this out (and Audi engineers say it is by design.) Auto Stop is aggressive and abrasive, restarts are not super smooth (jerky is a good way to define it.) The car keeps the RPMs as low as possible shifts too early, etc. Yes.... the power is absolutely there when you needed it (the SQ8 is significantly faster that Audi's 4.4 0-60 they publish)... but you have to be intention about wanting the performance, otherwise it wants to drive like an A4. She had the S-Sport package and it is one of the most impressive things I have ever experienced on a big SUV... but again, it was something that made the track fun, not really 35mph heading to swim practice. You can disable some of the aggressive fuel management stuff. But it always resets with a restart. Dynamic mode also turns it off... but then the idle speed jumps to 1100 rpm to minimize turbo lag and it sounds like you are trying to race everyone at the stoplight. Wonderful car... just not ideal for what she used it for. We are both SOOOOO impressed with the etronS. The power is awesome (much smoother delivery vs the SQ8) and all the jerkiness and unpredictability is gone.
