Does anyone get a slight vibration feeling between 38-43 mph?

It is seems to be a change in the front motor. Hard to describe on acceleration, but you can feel in more in the brake pedal when applying brake.

Also a random question.. Why is the blinker so loud? Louder than any of our other Audi's.

I didn't include it in my one month review, but you're so right about the blinker. It's like my mothers old 78 Dodge Charger clicking away!

I haven't felt the vibrations you're describing. The car is shockingly quiet and smooth except for the noises from outer space they've pumped in.

I get more road noise than I prefer, but that is due to the bad roads I drive. I have a stretch that I drive daily that is 40 mph and that is the only place I notice it. Don't notice it on quick acceleration.

I can immediately relate when I see those speeds. Mine also has an intermittent humming noise/vibration around those speeds. It's not loud at all, but it is very noticeable on a (silent) smooth surface. Anything like music or bad road surface is enough to mask the noise.

  • What I've also noticed is that it seems to be slightly worse in Efficiency mode (when only using the front motor?).
  • And it's also noticeable at double the speed, but a bit harder to detect with the increased road noises.

I found at least two members on a Taycan forum that mentioned it. One dealer said it's normal for the 4s. The other member went in last week and I think they are investigating it still.

I suspect @Canuck Audi Fan has the same issue, based on: Intermittent Humming/Vibration from Steering Wheel

Maybe it's normal, maybe it's not, but it ain't an one-off issue for sure.

What wheels/tyres do you run @Jd_Tx ?

Update:

In my last convo with the service advisor a few days ago, engineering pushed back saying some vibration is "normal" in a 4wd Taycan.

Luckily, my service adivsor and the techs kept driving the car and comparing to other 4S they had. The more they drove it, the more they understood my frustration that it was beyond "normal".

Seems they were able to push hard enough to get the replacement done, so it definitly helps to have a good service team. I've had poor experiences at other dealers and I'm sure they would have just handed the car back to me saying it's "normal".

I forgot to follow up. I took it into the dealer. They agreed that there was a change (vibration) at those speeds. Diagnostics did not show anything off. Audi E-tron team asked them to compare to another vehicle. Luckily the dealer had just received 3 GT's. They found that all had the same vibration at the same speeds. The Audi E-tron team said that it is just a characteristic of the car. I disagree, but did not push the issue at the moment. I think they don't know what it is and it will take other complaints to get it figured out.

I do plan on pushing the issue again later, once more cars get out there.

Is this a RS problem to for comparison? And a defect is characteristic?

I feel like history is repeating itself. :) Had a 'rare' issue with my BMW M4's engine, and eventually a few similar cases made it look like a 'characteristic'. One of the earlier cases (in the US) did manage to get a complete engine swap because of it. That turned out to be an extremely rare case/solution. Meanwhile you felt like driving a ticking time-bomb. BMW stated it was 'normal' and the car actually did remain bullet proof for the following 5 years of ownership.

This feels like a deja-vu. Your sensitive ears pick up something that could be slightly wrong, mechanically, and one guy managed to get a replacement front drive unit, whilst others get the "it's normal" explanation. We can't compare the severity though, so it's difficult to say what's normal.

I have the same issue but I feel I most on hard acceleration and 50 to 75 mph.

This thread is E-Tron GT specific and only for the intermittent humming between 38-43 mph.

Good news and a warning.

After the latest software campaigns 93P9 and 27K2, (actually 5 updates in total), one will change how and when the front motor operates.

The software update results in improvements to the distribution of the drive force to the front and rear axles and to the deactivation of the drive at the front axle. This leads to increased efficiency in the drive system and to reduced energy consumption, and therefore to an improved range. In addition to this, the likelihood of a potential decrease in battery performance over time is reduced.
The good news is that it will almost totally eliminate this issue.
The bad news, it's possibly also a workaround, by shutting down the front motor at those speeds to remedy the vibration.

If it was hard to convince the master mechanic in the past, be aware that it will be a lot harder to simulate the issue after these updates are applied. I feel like a ninja, still capable of reproducing the buzzing noise in a tiny operating window. But I have to admit, it's mostly fixed, and if you don't know what you're looking for you'll never know.

This humming has been an issue with that Taycan even before the E-Tron GT was available for sale.

Glad to hear it was resolved
