I know most in the US use iPhone but I'm an Android guy and after picking up my car today from the dealer I could not get wireless Android Auto working for the life of me. What is the trick to get this thing working? Has anyone in the US gotten wireless Android Auto working?

I have an AAwireless that I use in my MK7.5 Golf R and I also have a Motorola that works well on my wife's '20 A6 Allroad. I was kind of hoping that I could do without a dongle on this car. I did buy a spare Motorola dongle so as a last resort I can use that.

The manual and the MMI instructions are very iPhone centric, as if Android was non-existent. But they clearly state that wireless Android Auto is a feature I'm just waiting for someone to confirm.

After you have linked and paired your phone, do all the phone functions work in the MMI? Sounds like it might be time to check with your dealer or Audi USA. Maybe this is one of those features that is "in the works".

Yes, I can make phone calls and use it as a music player via bluetooth. I take you're not an Android user?

The Audi Website clearly states that it is supposed to be working:

No, I am an Android user, into my 3rd year of leasing a 2019 etron SUV, which does not have the wireless AA. Always interested in features added and features taken away in upcoming EV's as my lease expiration approaches. Looks like you are correct in that regard: here are a couple of posts I ran across on a related thread (Android Auto App Compatibility):

from "epirali" : "I connected my Galaxy fold via wireless Android Auto to my GT and it worked perfectly fine. Same as my iPhone with CarPlay. So you should not have an issue."

from "shanejc": "My Galaxy S20+ has connected wirelessly and worked just fine since day one of owning the car. More glitches with MMI in general than with Android Auto. Sometimes when I quickly turn car off/on, like to run into a store, the screen will be black but if I just go to MMI home and back it shows up again. Spotify, Waze, phone, assistant, fb messenger, what's app, etc. all work as expected."

So the actual Tech Spec list for the e-tron GT states that it only has wireless CarPlay and wired Android Auto. This is a bit disappointing. What's also disappointing is that my dealer and their technology specialist were not only unaware but unable/unwilling to confirm or find out this information.

Consider this case closed. There is no wireless Android Auto in the e-tron GT.

So I wonder what the other people in my entry were doing. Is wireless AA available in an upgrade package?

I guess my phone connects wirelessly by magic then! 😉

I have only Prestige with typical US package options, nothing special for Android Auto was selected or included.

Well, I guess I'll find out next week when I take it back to get my MMI issues sorted out. Hopefully Android Auto wireless will also start working. My manual is rev BA, which has a * next to the word wireless but there is no footnote to explain why the *.

Mine was originally delivered in August, 2021, could be that it was either a software update later that the original buyer never got, or when the dealer CPOd the car and supposedly reset everything they failed to install the software updates.

...the only thing I could think of would be if the feature was dropped because of the parts shortages (like Audi offering only 1 key fob and dropping the phone box, or Tesla taking away lumbar support in the passenger seat). If that was the case, though, it should have shown up as a credit on you car manifest.

So I had a call with Audi regarding registering the key user to the car and while I had them on the line I asked if Wireless Android Auto was supposed to be working. They said yes. Then I went and picked up my car from the dealer and the technologist guy said that "Actually the RS e-tron GT was supposed to come with Wireless AA, however it ran into some problems where it was not working properly/correctly for many so they disabled the feature on any future cars and even had service bulletin to turn it off in previous cars"

I told him that there is exactly one person on-line who has Wireless AA working in their e-tron GT on-line and I haven't seen a lot of other users claiming that it works. It does not work on mine. I hooked up an OBD11 to my car and could confirm that Android Auto was disabled in the MMI. I enabled it using the adaptation mode but it made no difference, my phone (A Pixel 6 Pro) still could not connect to it. So I don't know if there are other options or coding that has to be enabled for Wireless AA to work but I could not get it to work on my system.

I had an AA Wireless module that I just plugged in for now and it works with my phone. The only thing I don't like is that my Pixel 6 Pro does not fit the wireless charger with the quadlock case on. I'm looking for a smaller/slimmer case to see if I can fit it but I'm disappointed in the dimensions of the wireless charging opening.

I also have an iPhone 12 Pro that I can slip in there and use wirelessly, maybe that is the one to use instead of my Pixel.

I can confirm that AAWireless works flawlessly with Audi MMI system. It is actually pretty cool and I regret now I did not buy it before. No more connectivity problems, honestly, and works out of the box.

Yeah, I have two of them, one in my Golf R and another in the etron. I also have two of the Motorola units, that one seems to work fine too in my wife's A6 Allroad.

I meant that the MMI was supposed to work Wirelessly out of the box without any kind of adapter per Audi's, albeit contradicting, information sources. AAWireless does work flawlessly, it's just another dongle that I have to have in the cubby rather than things being super clean and work natively. If this is the biggest flaw this car will ever have I can certainly live with it.
