Sad really. They need better coms.
There is already a replacement p/n assigned it is just when they will get them.

I'm not speculating, this is the remedy listed on the NHTSA recall notice. It's far cheaper for Audi to replace a single cable than an entire EVSE.
Right, the recall notice says that we will receive a free replacement 240V cable for the charging brick. I bought my 2021 e-tron off-lease last week. When I looked for EVSE and tire kit during a walk-around, and noticed the 240V cable missing, I asked where it was. They brought up the recall and said they were told by Audi USA to “destroy” the cable.

So I interpret this as we wait to be contacted by Audi when a remedy is available. And that remedy is a free replacement cable.

You could have told them to destroy your check for the car too, and that you will contact them when you have a replacement for them. They did destroy original equipment. If they removed tires, and told you to some day they will provide you new ones, how would that be different?

I had a dedicated NEMA 14-50 outlet installed in my garage in 2022 and have been using that to do 80% charging since then. I pulled the pigtail out this morning and see a little scorching at the base of the 'X' prong. I can dial back to 50% charging in the short term. Can I buy a JuiceBox 40 and plug it into that same outlet to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance!

P.S. My Audi service guy recommended getting a "universal" pigtail to replace the Audi one. At first glance, I don't see these online. Is that a relatively inexpensive solution in the short term that would not have the same problem?

I have never seen after market pigtails for the Audi EVSE. But I do use a JuiceBox 40 (the old design) for over 4 years now with no issues.
Thanks. For now, I have set the charger to 50%. That might suffice for us until Audi supplies whatever replacement they are going to do. I'm not seeing a compelling reason to spend $500+ for a JuiceBox to plug into our NEMA outlet. Am I missing something?

I like the fact that I can keep track of the amount of energy going into the car. This can be helpful for determining battery capacity and degradation. But the main reason was that the cable is longer compared to the Audi EVSE. My outlet is at the back wall and I back into the garage. So the cable has to reach all the way to the front and the JuiceBoxjust has more slack that way. The side benefit is that the JuiceBox uses thicker wires and thus do not get as warm as the ones used in the Audi EVSE.

What is the cable size?

I can't find the actual specs online. Only that it has a 25' length.

I work in a different industry but one which is similarly structured. With so many voices in the field (Service Advisors alone), the corporate managers live in terror that any one of those voices will say too much or reveal something which will lead to a lawsuit or—worse—class action filing.

the solution then is to say little of substance, offer vague timelines for resolution, and half-assed interim “fixes” which solve next to nothing. I charge my 2019 in my driveway with a good Amazon 220V charger because my used e-tron didn’t include the Audi charger. From that I can see the Audi charger has its own concerns with blowing out the 220V outlet.

Looks like I’ll be charging outside the garage for some time to come.

I recently purchased a '22 e-tron GT that qualifies for this recall. I contacted my local dealership and summarized their explanation below:

My local dealership has not seen any of these issues arise for their customers, but as rdgrimes indicated above, the recall isn't so much about the Audi mobile charger unit itself. Apparently, there have been reports of people having issues when charging with their mobile chargers through a dedicated 240V home outlet. The charger itself is designed to charge at either 50% capacity or 100% capacity, and it's only job is to charge at that rate. Audi of course has no control over the installation of the outlet, the wiring used in the house, the circuit board's capability to handle that much energy, etc. In other words, the Audi chargers have operated well, it's the home infrastructure that has struggled while the charger is in use. Due to the issues reported, however, Audi has decided it needs to take action to find a solution. According to my local dealer, as of 12/19/2023, they are no longer providing the 240V cord with the mobile charger included with every new and used e-tron purchase (not just GT). Instead, they are only permitted to provide the 120V chord for the mobile charging unit (sorry for anyone considering an e-tron until this issue is fixed). The service manager I spoke with thinks Audi will resolve the issue in one of two ways, but the estimated time it will take to implement said change is slated for mid-2024: (1) Provide customers with a new 240V cord for their mobile charging unit that will help avoid damaging the home wires running to the 240V outlet; or (2) provide an incentive (stipend, refund, etc.) to have their customers install a dedicated EVSE charger at home (ChargePoint, JuiceBox, etc.). The service manager I spoke to was unable to tell me whether Audi will provide refunds retroactively for clients who already installed home chargers offered by third-party companies, but he said based on his past experience, he expects the company will (we'll see about that).

For now, Audi is recommending clients who still rely upon their mobile charger with the 240V cord to set the box to 50% charge capacity instead of 100%. This will still provide a better charge than a standard wall outlet, but it is a temporary fix to avoid a fire hazard at your house in the event your electrical infrastructure is not sufficient to support your dedicated 240V wall outlet. My house was built in 2022, so I'm not as concerned about the infrastructure. That said, I'm having a dedicated circuit installed in my house tomorrow, which will run to a hard-wired ChargePoint charger in my garage. I figured this is the safest and most convenient way for me to charge at home (not to mention my wife wants her garage spot back!).
There is also a battery recall for which Audi has no current solution. They could just retro-fit the 2023 battery into the 2022 model, but they deemed that too expensive and it would extend the warranty another 5 years.

Just returned from the Dealer for yearly service, and for the high voltage battery modules, and charging plug pigtail recall. Was told that when the pigtail becomes available they will be shipped to the owners , with return postage to return the old , also the voltage nodules was a software update, and if any nodules were affected they would be replaced. I was given a loaner , and told my car would not be ready until tomorrow.

Received several calls from Audi and an email that my car has 4 service bulletins out for it.
This baffled me because they had my car for several days, less than 2 weeks ago, for annual maintenance and nothing was flagged then.
I was a bit annoyed, so I called my SA to see if these 4 just happened to pop up in the last 2 weeks or did they not check as they said they did when they had my car.

He says the recalls are for the portable charger, apparently the fix is available and they will swap the old for the new. This was somehow broken into 2 bulletins.

The 3rd was for the heater, while I have not had the heater issue (knock on 🪵) he said they will inspect it and see if it past their test, if not it will be replaced.

The final was around the brakes, again, I have not had the brake issue I’ve seen some on here describe. Even after they changed my brake fluid 2 weeks ago as part of 2 year maintenance, but apparently there’s a software update they went to do.

He said it should take no more than 2 days, hopefully things go smoothly but annoyed at having to take the car back to them so soon:

Got my 2019 used from private owner. Didn't come with 1110v pigtail connector, so Audi won't honor the recall replacement. If anyone managed to get a whole kit without returning the 110v part, I'd appreciate the opportunity to buy it from you.
