We are on our first long trip with the Audi e-tron. Today we charged at the Iroquois service area on the New York Thruway. The chargers are provided by Applegreen Electric. When I plugged in, the charging post screen said something to the effect that the charging would start momentarily. But it did not, and the car's screen showed no charging underway. Then, I noticed that the chargeport light was off, not white as it should have been. So I tried to unplug so I could move to a different charger. But I could not unplug -- the cable was apparently stuck. The car's screen then said that there was a "charging system error" and to "Check the owner's manual." Fortunately, I had the manual with me.
I followed the instructions in the manual for a stuck cable, opened the hood, accessed a small port above the chargeport, and pulled a plastic release. That did the trick! I was then able to remove the cable. We then moved the car to another open charging stand, and tried again. This time the car connected immediately, and we got a good, fast charge. I had no trouble removing the cable at the end of charging.
The concern I have is that the Owner's manual says that you should "immediately drive to an Audi dealer" to remedy the problem, implying that there may be some fault in the car. But it is a Friday night and we have many miles to travel before Monday when I could possibly find an Audi dealer. Plus, the successful charging session suggests that the car is fine and the fault was with the cable.
So, the question is, do I really need to see a dealer, or can I chalk this up to a problematic cable connector and keep charging? I plan to assume so for the moment. I suppose I could call Audi Roadside assistance, but if I did, wouldn't they most likely to follow the book and head for a dealer?
Anyone ever have a similar situation? If so, what happened and what did you do?
