Was it a motor failure?
mines currently in the Audi Centre here in Australia. Bought off the lot A4 20 S Line 45 TFSI after a decade of a Camry. Total shutdown while driving on 4 + occasions. Within 1 day, Audi centre claims it’s ready to pickup with no diagnosed issues.
Sent them all the videos. Out of Office on the Specialist dealing.

Will pursue all legal avenues available at consumer levels

Looks like my 2019 ran into this issue today. I am having it towed to the dealership as I type. I have 40k miles on it. Ughhhh I am leasing it and was going to purchase the car but with 1 month left on my lease I think they can have it back since this seems to be an issue. I will see what they say once they take a look at the car. I will say that I have really enjoyed this car over the last 3 years but I hate problems. That is why I left BMW…. View attachment 9216
This is a serious issue. My 2019 etron just quit on a winding narrow mountain highway (B.C. Sea to Sky) on a dark and rainy night. Sheer cliff on one side, cliff to the ocean on the other, no shoulder. I was just lucky that no one plowed into me on their way down from Whistler. Super dangerous. I think I will never trust the car again. Might trade it in.

I am off to having a great start of the morning. "Electrical system: malfunction! Safely stop vehicle"

Luckily, that happened in garage before taking off so just sitting now and waiting for a tow truck to get me to the dealership to have the car looked at. I expect battery and/or electric motor to be shot. In the last few days I was feeling the car underperforming and showing much lower efficiency but I would put blame on the low temperatures and all. Perhaps that was a sign of things to come.
Any experience with errors like this? I could not find these errors reported anywhere on the forum ...
Hello . I just recently bought an audi etron 50 q8 ; 2021 .. driven for 34k kms
Engine starts but when switch to drive mode the car does not move .
Dashboard notified electrical system malfunction safely stop the vehicle
WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM??

PLEASE ADVISE URGENTLY
THANK YOu

A week and a half ago my 2019 e-tron died, and it turned out to be coolant flooding my rear electric motor. It has about 67k miles, and it is covered under the extended 120k motor warranty. I’m told the parts are in stock, and I should have the vehicle back this week. This is much quicker than previous repairs in 2023 and 2024 on the battery and sx6 module - that each took weeks.

Hi, here is another with the same issue. This is the second time I got the message “Electrical System Malfunction”. It happens last week. The car is at the dealer right now. It’s very frustrating because I love how great it looks. Also the interiors and everything. But now the car have 37k. I can’t trust in this car anymore.

Another member joining the club. Exact same messages. Happened to me last night and it's currently at the dealership getting inspected. 2022 55 e-tron sportback. 5 months left on its 3 year warranty. 15,000 miles. Yikes.
I just had this same thing happen with my 2024 Q4 Etron. Only 1100 miles and this stuff happened. Have to get it towed to dealership tomorrow. Just curious if you were able to get resolution?
2 weeks at dealership from start to finish; the issue was with the SX6 switching module. I have owned the car 32 months into the 36 month warranty so I lucked out. However do we think this would have been covered by the 8 year / 100k battery warranty?

Another one here! 2022 with ~70k miles. This all started with the car not accepting a high speed charge from an Electrify American station. A few miles later, we get the "Electrical system: malfunction! Safely stop vehicle" doing 70 mph up a steep hill on the freeway while in the fast lane. Then it says "All Wheel Drive Malfunction", " Performance limited blah blah blah". This happened 100s of miles from home and the Audi dealer in the city we were in scanned it and found no issues. Drove it homer wioth no incidents, our local Audi dealer had it for 2 weeks and couldn't see an error. They applied the recent software update and said it would likely fix it. Happened again on a mountain pass with no hard shoulder last week and scared my poor wife who was driving it, again after using Electrify America. Happened me yesterday doing 75mph on i5 and I hadn't used EA. I tired to charge at an EVGo but it gave me ~10 miles then kicked me off. Happened again about 50 miles down the road. Tried to charge with EA and again, a little juice and kicked me off. We have found that sometimes the Stop button doesn't work when this happens, but once we switch it off, it restarts fine. The car changes fine with our home charger. Pretty discouraging that Audi can't find any issues cos essentially we have a car that is not fit for purpose. I wonder if we asked for a trade in if they would flag the issue, even though they say it's not an issue ;-).

How upbeat is your Dealer Service with regard to EV's? Some Dealers would just wish you would GO AWAY. If they are responsive, whenever an error occurs, take a picture to show them it actually happened, even though no errors are recorded. As you say, right now the car is not very reliable. All EV makers are having to deal with building an "error" database on these cars now in the wild--there are so few of them! A committed Dealer Service wants to make every customer happy in the cheapest, most efficient way. Pictures and pressure will at least pave the way for you to argue for a trade-in. If your State has a Lemon Law get familiar with the deadlines!

We got quite a few photos at this stage!!! Just waiting for them to get back to me now. I'll keep y'all posted on the results.

Push for it to be fixed whilst it's still in the 3 year warranty period, the issue will not go away and will eventually leave you without any power. Your issues seem to tally up with other SX6 Switching Module failures as this is what's responsible for DC charging the batteries and DC output to the motors.

Sadly we are past the 3 year mark as we bought the car in November '21 - even though it's a '22.

Audi have it now and expect to have a diagnosis tomorrow - though I'm skeptical it will be anything different to the last time when they couldn't find any fault.

A question for the others in this thread - does this track to what you were seeing and what was the solution? SX6 Switching Module replacement?

My SX6 issues didn't actually present with any performance issues. But everything else aligns, a few failed attempts to DC fast charge, including one where it said the aircon had a fault and couldn't be enabled. Then I just got the generic Electrical System Malfunction warning repeatedly (usually at startup), started out about once a month, then once a week, then once a day... Each time a key off/on would fix it. Even if it came on during a drive, no other warnings accompanied it, and it was fine to keep driving.

The good news is my new car warranty (US) ended 2023/09/30 but Audi replaced the SX6 module under the powertrain warranty (8yr/100k miles) and fully covered it in Jan 2024, including a loaner for the roughly 4-6 weeks it took to get the part and clear the backup of other etrons getting the same module replaced. They told me at the time they typically failed in the winter/cold. No issues since! Now just waiting on one or more motor to get wet and need to be replaced... 🙃

I wonder why they covered your SX6 module under the powertrain warranty (8yr/100k miles) but not ours. Did they give you any kind of correspondence about this that you could share?
