Interesting that "The Guy" who can activate these lights says that the method works for any of the "Matrix LED" Audi headlight packages. That article shown in Post 14 has Audi stating that the "Smart" features are available in only the "Matrix Design LED" and "Digital Matrix Design LED" headlights packages.
Is that going back to debating the definition of the term "smart"?
Smart maybe being carpet, snowflakes, turn indications etc. Whereas Matrix is matrix is matrix?
So the "The Guy" can enable matrix for any matrix light, but only the smart features on the "Matrix Design LED" and "Digital Matrix Design LED".
Or am I missing it?

The Carpet, snowflakes, etc are part of the "DIGITAL Matrix Design LED". In addition to the matrix led's the DIGITAL version contains a digital projector chip that does that sort of projecting. The Matrix DESIGN led does the selective field blanking most commonly associated with the "smart' concept. Plain old MATRIX LED, according to Audi press releases just does the bright/dim, but uses LED's to do it. It may be that the MATRIX LED, does in fact have some of the hardware for allowing some smart features, but Audi clearly seems to be denying that.

I know that article makes me less PO'd at Audi for not doing the work needed to allow the lights in the US.....Clearly, NHTSA is continuing on its puzzling campaign to keep Smart headlights out of the US, even to the point of subverting instructions from the US Congress. The new requirements make technical demands for their use in the US that no Smart system in the world is required to meet.

Just interacted with the Europrice.us to confirm what my vehicle would support (e.g. do I have the right hardware).

I know it has been explained ad naseum, however is the final result that brights are on all the time when dark out rather than popping on an off? I know how they will function when on, but just want to confirm I understand that the brights would basically be on all the time and the dimming would manage the brightness as necessary.

is that essentially correct?

In very bright environments or where the number of cars exceeds the number that can be tracked, the high beams are disengaged. I'm not sure if there is also a minimum speed to engage similar to the laser headlights. I am enabling them this week with Sam and should hopefully know more this weekend.

I believe their conditions that must be met to enable the highbeam matrix. For example, if there any overhead bright lighting, it seems to revert back to dipped lights. And if there are too many cars where there’s no field that can be thrown, it seems to also revert back. But I’ve also noticed that even when the auto highbeam isn’t turning blue, which indicates the matrix LED, it will still extend the field on the sides And sides of the roads are much more clear .

Well, another happy customer of Sam's here. I just drove around my neighborhood a bit and the lights would often get confused by street lights and it was difficult to get their full benefit. Something to get used to is seeing them dance around in light-polluted environments. I was also surprised that they engage at such low speeds (around 20mph), which is very nice. I'm excited to drive on darker roads in the future.

Is there, like, a menu of additional features that can be enabled?

There are so many things I'd like to have changed.
There is a menu if you contact Sam. For things outside Matrix and the couple other lighting features, it makes more sense to use OBD11

Sam worked his magic on my 24 GT. Europrice was great to work with! Very fast shipping of the dongle, great prep instructions including before and after vids to know what to expect, very fast coding, great conversation while he worked (via WhatsApp), and overall a great and precessional experience.

Return label provided for the dongle and UPS sealed it up for me, so all I had to do was drop it off, worth the trip to test the matrix lights.

I also got the reverse side lights.

HUD indicator makes it obvious when they go on, and blue laser still works as designed.

Very cool to see matrix in action. Brutal that they are disabled in the US now that they are legal.

I cannot say enough about the service they provided and the result. At less than 1% of the price of the car, worth the additional line of sight and safety (I know, very subjective).

Hope this helps anyone still considering it!

P.S. Extra goodies work great too!
