Yep, that will cause issues too. 😄

With those splices you have to make sure both wires are fully inserted and then use pliers on the metal clip to lock them in. After that is done you close the flap. 👍

Audi should really have made this a simple firmware upgrade. They have these other scene packages you can purchase (not even sure what those do) but seems like many people would have just paid to unlock these features. Seems like a missed opportunity
Agreed, and even more frustrating is that in Europe I heard you could select the multicolor ambient lighting as a separate option for not much money.

Unfortunately, there is hardware differences in the ambient lighting packages so its not just a turn on function in SW.

So, I decided to try another ambient lighting addition to our Q8 e-tron Premium Plus. I liked the lighted e-tron logo on the Prestige trim as the passenger side dash doesn’t have much going on at night. I decided to try and add the lighted logo on our car.

The issue with this is the dash trim including the e-tron logo uses built-in LED modules. This is not the same as the removable modules used in the doors. However, when I had the Kufatec kit I noticed the built-in modules had similar housings to the door ones. I figured I might be able to modify them to work.

I ordered the parts needed and tried it out.

I had to remove the top cover and swap out the multicolor LED assembly and replace it with the white 2-pin assembly. This was a direct swap. I used the same blue tint film from the doors to match. I then used the same wires and housing from my door LED modification. This allowed me to convert the built-in multicolor 4-pin LED to be 2-pin. By doing this I was able to power the dash trim using the 2-wire harness from the passenger footwell light. Running the wiring through the dash trim to the footwell light was not too hard. Now we have a blue light up e-tron dash trim to match our doors.

The better news is that this method should work for the wood dash trim if someone wanted to do that. We didn’t because of the cost for the parts.

This should finish our plans for adding colored ambient lighting to our Premium Plus Q8 e-tron.

Parts List:
Upper Dash Trim / 4KL-857-186-A-V58
LED Module (qty 2) / 4N0-947-356
Housing (qty 2) / 8K0-973-754
Wires (Qty 2) / 000-979-009-EA

Oh no. Now I have another project :ROFLMAO:

Some tips for this install...

I used this post for removing most of the passenger side trim

DYI 2019 Audi eTron Carbon Fiber Dash Inlay Wrap - AudiWorld Forums

You have to partially remove the center vent cluster as the e-tron dash trim has a section that goes behind it.

For the footwell light there is a 8mm bolt above it that if removed allows you to pull the panel down slightly on that one side so you can push the light out from the back side. This also helps grab the wiring from the dash trim that you feed down from the top.

Make sure you have the correct polarity on the connections or the LED won't light.

I added a few pics from my install for reference...

You have to upgrade to the tech pack which I believe is around £4k. I’m quite surprised my Black Edition didn’t have it to be honest, an £80k car with no HUD or multi-coloured ambient lighting.

I see you're in a P+ Q8 - just got my 24 Q4 and the ability to change the color is actually not in the lighting section of the settings but buried inside the Vehicle Settings tab. Am in a 2024 P+ Q4 E-tron and my ambient lights are currently purple and orange.

Looks like Q4 e-tron packages are different than Q8... Q4 Premium Plus comes with the LED Interior Lighting Plus Package.

Our Q8 e-tron came with LED Interior Lighting Package.... not Plus. We have to get the Premium package to get the multi-color LED interior lighting.

Wow that is kind of crazy on an 80k car. But the Q8 is still incredible!

Tell me about it! We were very surprised we did not get the multi-color ambient LED lighting that you see online soo much. Even our Sales guy thought we had it because the Window sticker mentioned LED Interior Lighting Package...

Hence my project to add colored lighting to our Premium Plus in this post.

So we bought a 2024 Audi Q8 e-tron Premium Plus which came with the white ambient lighting. My wife really liked the multi-color lighting from the Prestige but the additional $10K cost did not make sense for us. I researched what the ambient lighting options were for us (USA based) and found a retrofit kit from Kufatec that seemed to offer what we wanted.

Some quick background, there are two ambient lighting packages for the USA Q8 e-tron…

Ambient Lighting QQ1 (White LED, 2 wire connector / Power + Ground) - typically comes on Premium Plus

Ambient Lighting QQ2 (Multi-color LED, 4 wire connector / Power + Ground + 2 CAN bus) - typically comes on Prestige

There is also the Side Alert system which uses a RED led module separate from the ambient lighting that lights up the door trim

I ordered the Kufatec kit and tried to install it in our Q8. The good news is that the parts seem to work fine although the dash trim came in aluminum instead of the wood our car came with. The wiring harness for our car was simple for the doors as the Side Alert and QQ1 door trim had the extra light pipe connection already. There was also a plug for the 4 wire multi-color LED connection on the door control modules which made the door harness easy to install. The only custom wiring needing to be added was to the dash trim, e-tron dash panel, and center console upper trim. Kufatec provides the wiring harnesses for all of this with the only vehicle modifications being adding two wires from the new harness to Pin 28 and Pin 59 on the BCM along with a ground connection. The Kufatec kit included a coding Dongle which is where my issues began. When I first tried the coding it didn’t seem to work. I reached out to Kufatec for assistance and when they found out it was a 2024 Q8 e-tron (which was referenced in my order form along with the VIN!) they said it was not supported due to SFD2 security and to return the kit. I did not give up so easily as I had already done some coding successfully on our Q8. I confirmed that we did not have SFD2 on our vehicle as we were an early production build (March 2023). I then checked the Kufatec website for a update for the coding Dongle using their download tool and it said no file was even loaded on the Dongle! I reached out to Kufatec support again and told them about the issue and that I confirmed we did not have SFD2 and they still refused to help and insisted I return the kit. In frustration, that is what I did…

Hello WunderWagen i saw your post for your q4 i would like to ask a few questions about my Audi 2020 E Tron 50 ambient lights, it doesn’t include in my Audi would it be possible to install it and code it to the MMI infotainment system so i can change the colour and the brightness on the screen instead of the phone app?
The only problem is i live in Iceland and i would like to know as much as i can on how to do it myself so if there is anything that you can help me with that i need to know it would help so much man, i can pay you for information if you want even i just need to know where i can find this ambient lighting kit and how to install and code it to the MMi Screen if its possible? Thank you 🙏

do you know if the KUFATEC Kit works

First, I do not have a Q4... ours is a Q8 e-tron. Second, I did not end up doing any coding for my lights, it was a physical installation adding the LED's to the existing LED wiring.

For Kufatec, I believe they do have a kit that works on the older E-trons but you would need to contact them directly. For my Q8, they did not have the right coding for their ambient light kit to work so I had to return it.

yeah i meant your q8 e- tron so it had originally white ambient lights and you just put a blue cover over the light and it was just a blue light, but my question is it possible to install them aftermarket if there is a slot under the rim for them but they are not there?

I left the original white ambient lighting as is... what I did (as posted) is add new white LED modules and converted them to blue. For my Premium Plus model the light pipes for the door panels was already there and not used.

I cannot comment on aftermarket as I used all OEM parts.

Hey @WunderWagen I hope things are going well. I stumbled on your post and just happen to have horrendous rattle on the exact spot you added the light strip. Does that trim pop off or does the door need to be removed and accessed from the back? It seems that the it rattles with plastic on plastic and need to wedge some felt tape. Any help would be appreciated.

I did not add any light strip, only LED's to the already existing light pipe (strip) that was installed on the doors. You would have to pull the door panel off to access the light pipes.

Understood, so the light pipes can’t be accessed with the door cards on, I have to removed them. Did you use any documentation, anything would be helpful. Thanks again!

Hi Kippar, assume you mean the passenger side dash trim with the e-tron logo? If so, there are plugs on either end. I spliced the wires from both dash trim connectors together and then tied them both to the passenger side footwell light.
