Thank you, just for baseline, that is light carpet in action (pretty neat, I am sure it looks much better with less ambient light). Did you have your high beams on in here?
Yes this is the light carpet in action, I live in a populated area so there's always street lighting or other lighting elements. I did not have my highs on. Only way to activate Matrix LED's is to have your highs on in "auto" so that it automatically activates when it senses less ambient light. Maybe another time I'll get better footage when I'm in a dark rural area.

That would be awesome. I do not expect the unlock for me to happen any time soon, given the timelines shared, so any additional information would be really welcome. I am sure others will find it useful as well.
Thrilled to see this thread. I really looked forward to this unlock after driving with a coworker in Germany. He has a Skoda that dips just the left side of the beam for oncoming traffic. It takes a little getting used to, it feels like it must be so obnoxious to oncoming traffic, but we never got flashed once. But I'm also going to wait on this. Not real keen on paying for it multiple times.

What would be sweet is if OBDEleven had some secure way to sell this mod. In that manner, it could theoretically then be replayed after a service for the same price. Sales would likely be exponential...

Lets hope that time comes soon, I'm not thrilled about paying what I paid to unlock these headlights and though I'll always be able to re-code in the event it gets reverted back to oem, still the OBDEleven path will be idea.

The functionality becomes particularly clear around 1:06 because you can see that the car didn't sense the car in front of it immediately, and the lane lights continued for a bit longer than normal, because the car in front of you had its lights off. This sort of proves the value to me - it shows the difference in how the Audi's lights notice vehicles in front of you as you move along really well. I'd love to have this functionality. Unfortunately have a 2019 e-tron, so not an option for me.

Here you go, its not the best of video but you can make out the light carpet keeping up with my lane changes and shortening as I get close to cars. Also, please excuse my erratic driving, I was in a bit of a rush to get home.

So an additional $1243 to activate a feature that is already built in is a little much. Think I’ll pass.
Hoping someone figures out how to recode it with an ODI connector without needing to pay someone else to extort us out of something we really already paid for when we bought the car!

I believe there is a firmware that has to be loaded to the headlight modules to support this function... not just coding. That is the value in the service by shops doing this and the price to be paid. Loading the wrong firmware can cause issues which I have heard about online so paying an expert who knows what he is doing is worth it.

That's precisely spot on. Not only does the firmware need to be added, the respective control modules also need to be coded to make the new function available. Simple "recording" will not work in this case. This function is simply neutered by Audi at the firmware level in US. In Europe, you can always buy an upgrade and have it coded in a dealership. In here, no such luck for now, outside of side load as covered in this thread.

That is correct, this is why VAS is used and not VCP. Headlights need a new firmware uploaded to their controller and LED ballast connected to the headlight that isn't related to coding. In my previous S4 when I had matrix LED's imported from Europe and installed, the LED ballast and controller needed their firmware wiped out and new ones uploaded matching the car. See example below of a regular etron matrix led headlights with all the silver ballasts/controllers that controls the LED and are the brains of the headlight. These get new software uploaded to them via VAS interface.

Just an update - finally got the unlock done and the result is pretty interesting. I had it come up several times even on the motorway and see clearly as it cuts out around the other vehicles.
I do have a standing alarm with SOS modules, so they will need to clear that - I am unable to get that done. It is likely the module needs to be properly rebooted. Outside of that, a pretty simple process, just make sure you have enough juice in the laptop and follow simple instructions.

Just wondering, was your SOS alarm a consequence of the unlock or was it preexisting?

I absolutely love mine, but I see you are in Europe, isn't it already active there?
