(United Kingdom) Green number plates - what about going abroad?

I understand that unless specified otherwise, all new EVs (or zero emissions vehicles to be specific) will be registered with those number plates that have a green band down the left where the country details usually are.

Also required if you want to drive to the EU is a UK (or SCO/WAL/ENG) flag and appropriate country code. (Displaying number plates)

My question is can you have both?

I haven't seen any EVs with flag/country identifier as well as the green strip.

Yes I can imagine it being a bit of a mess to be honest. Reason I ask is that there are alleged benefits of having that green thing, although i'm not convinced there are because I can't find much on it.

The stickers/magnets is a good idea though, couple of quid and sorted.

You certainly can have the green EV flash as well as the legally required new UK country designator.

As far as any benefit goes there may actually be advantages when travelling overseas to countries that don't pick up EV's through camera/database monitoring. Obviously this is not an issue within the UK itself.

Grant Shapps used a green flash EV plate when this was announced last year.

Yeah, except that what grant shapps promised isn't true anymore as we now need UK instead of GB.
With this government in charge, I wouldn't go for anything semi permanent. Won't be long before Scotland goes and you'll need to have another country abbreviation!
