Happy new year everyone!

I just got my RS e-tron GT today, still sorting out a number of things and setting everything up but apparently the walk away locking is not available - which is surprising because it's kind of a basic feature on a car this level.
A quick search on the internet seems to indicate that the feature isn't available at all, but here I am hoping to find a magic solution.

It's minor, but my M8 had it and now it really is hard to remember locking the car manually (with the fob or the sensor on the handle).
Basically all the times I drove someone else's car I left them open because I didn't remember to lock them, being so used to simply walking away and knowing the car would lock itself up. Not keen to have this happen to my RS :|

And that's fine, what I'm interested in is the opposite: to have the care lock itself up when I walk away, without having to touch the sensor or use the fob

I think one thing a lot of people now realize is that you should not expect to find on a comparably priced EV all the features typically found on an ICE car in that given price range The battery just very expensive and that has led makers to trim back on the available features. Lesson learned: if you have a feature you really want, read the fine print very closely.
Don't really see the point of this comment to be honest.
I didn't expect the car to have the feature just because, however I've put in each and every option - carbon roof being the only exceptions.
This includes the comfort key / advanced key / whatever it's called, which I expected to enable me to do what I pointed out above.

Also, it's not like I wouldn't have bought the car had I known it wouldn't lock itself up automatically

Electric Bmw iX, bmw i4 have it and it’s very convenient. They also can use the iPhone as a key. iX has even a more advanced key that with iPhone it locks and unlocks from a distance via UWB, so no need to take phone out of pocket.

E em in the new Q8 Etron, Audi is lagging in this department with a traditional system on the handle and phone key on android only (as per the site description)

I hear you, but that's not reality for what you'd consider standard features on a luxury car. If the salesman handed you a key for the ignition and it had crank up windows and a manually adjustable seat wouldn't you be surprised? Obviously that's an extreme example, but no one is going through a 2000 point checklist of every luxury feature that's been on the cadillac/bmw/lexus that they've owned for the past 10 years.

You do know you can lock the car from the App? Personal preference, I’d like to lock the car myself to know it’s locked. I seem to recall some BMW , Cadillac and Lexus owners having their cars opened or pinched because they thought it had auto locked to find that it hadn’t.

after all, it’s not tortuous to touch the door sensor on the way out for a couple of seconds?

I've always locked my cars when it needed to be locked - with a key, with a remote or touching the handle. I just bought a X5 and turned off the "walk away lock" - just about every trip I take ends back in my garage and I don't need to have it locked it there. Actually a pain when you are unloading stuff out of it.

Really funny because I was searching up this topic and I, too, had an M8 and was wondering why this walk away locking was not happening on my etron GT.

Maybe it's a market and/or model year feature. My Nov 22 build model year consistently locks when the key travels around 5m away from the vehicle, but I tend to also explicitly lock it from the remote anyway. I don't miss a 'Beep', the living 'Clunk' is perfectly audible.

On a couple of occasions in almost a year of ownership, I have returned to the vehicle, to find the boot (trunk) open, so I'm cautious about trusting the feature.

Hi , you can do it with OBD11 on the “one click app” section , it cost 100 credits but your car needs to have keyless entry . Now I’m looking if there is a way to do it with VCDS but not sure if you can , anyone knows ??

Heck, my bog-standard Chevy Bolt had walk-away locks. WTAF Audi?

Agreed this is a basic miss on the part of Audi, my 2008 911 has this feature, no excuse for this car at this price point.

Also, it’s not about wanting to lock the car yourself, 90% of us want that, it’s about the few times you may be preoccupied (carrying a large item for instance) or mentally distracted because you had a rough day and accidently leave the car unlocked, after a certain amount of time it should lock itself.

Frankly, I'm tired of Audi ignoring the issue, and plaints of their loyal customers.
Loyalty only goes so far. If your car gets ransacked because you inadvertently left it unlocked, what's the chance you will buy another Audi, when a simple software update could cure this? Nil, in my opinion.
- The darned car already knows you are present with the key and unlocks it, why the heck can't it do the reverse?

I have asked Audi Care. Let's see what they have to say for themselves.

Here is the message and reply.
I don't think they understood the question, or are obviating

Hello Audi Care,

A great question has been floating around the internet between us Audi owners.

That is, why do these cars not have the walk-away lock feature present in even the lowest of trim levels of other brands...GM for example?

My E-Tron knows me and my key fob are near and unlocks the door, whey in the world is it not a default to do the reverse? It seems like it would be a simple software update.

I'm looking forward to this response...it will be shared.

Is there defo not a feature on the GT. When I first got my e-tron 50 in Feb, I parked up in a supermarket, left my son in the car, with the keys, I went in the supermarket. I came back 10 mins later, he said did your phone tell you about the alarm. I was oblivious, I then looked at my Audi app and saw all sorts of messages.

It seemed to know I left the car as had my phone in my pocket, the car realised the keys where still in the car, so it looked it and armed the security system. It obviously didn't figure out my son was still in it. So after a min set the alarm off with my lad then panicking looking like a thief lol.

I was actually pretty impressed it used my phone to figure out I had left and secured the car.

My son wasn't impressed though lol.

I bloody paid for comfort lock option literally for the ability for car to secure itself in case I forget to. Yesterday I forgot to lock it and an opportunity thief came knocking on the same knight and I got ransacked. I already promised myself on more than one occasion that this is my last Audi ever, but this is a cherry on top. Looking forward to my lease expiration to go back to good old BMW.

I agree! I was a bit disappointed that it didn't have this feature...

The whole comfort lock thing is a borderline scam compared to other brands like BMW. Instead of proximity sensors, it's using touch sensors on the handle, and is never able to guess whether I want to lock or unlock. It regularly happens to me that I unlock the drivers door by reaching for the handle, and then lock the car again when I want to open the passenger door! Insanely idiotic design! No wonder E-TRON factory has been closed in Belgium!
