You want the car to drive without the key present?
I want it to tell me the key isn't present before I drive... like every other car.
Sorry, maybe I was unclear. My Girlfriend had her key on her. That's what allowed us to drive home. When I dropped her off, the car was still in gear. She got out of the car with the key and went in the house. The car didn't tell me the key was absent before I drove off to the mailbox. So no key present in the car and it allowed me to drive away. Not cool!

I’m only aware of one software glitch that affected me, and it seems that it was tied to software upgrade related to the new models a couple of years back. My understanding is that the new software utilized a different development stack, and they didn’t sufficiently regression test the software for older models. It took a few weeks, but they fixed it.

If the car is “in gear”, I think this is normal behavior. Maybe this is to prevent problems if the fob loses communication with the car during driving, for instance because of a depleted battery. But I’m pretty sure my current and past ICE vehicles behave the same way. The car will let you ( or someone ) continue driving until the engine is turned off, then it’s a brick and the carjacker is walking…

I have occasionally pondered scenarios in which that behavior could cause me problems, and I think you found one. But I don’t think that’s specific to Q4. I’m not sure about whether or when warnings are issued, in any push-to-start vehicle. I guess I haven’t ditched my wife at roadside enough times to figure it out! 🤪

There is clearly a misunderstanding between the dealer and buyer that can be rectified with a one hour session at the dealership to set up and explain the software. Apple CarPlay is not configured properly. It is best setup to run through the Q4s WIFI hotspot. Both the Q4 and iPhone need to be setup that way. Good luck.

Similar scenario, I was driving my girlfriend's BMW i3 and dropped her off at a hospital entrance. She had the key in her bag. I drove off to park further away, and the car warned me within about 5-10 seconds that the key was no longer present. So why can't Audi do it? It still allowed me to keep driving, though. I think an enforced stop would be dangerous, for the reasons others have said.

Hi All,

This is our first Audi and I cannot comprehend how there can be so many technical issues in a state-of-the-art Audi automobile. Yet here we are.

1. CarPlay works, then it doesn’t.
2. The beeping for going over the speed limit comes back on no matter how many times we turn it off.
3. The radio defaults back to FM no matter how many times we leave it on Sirius (“Lithium” or “Deep Tracks” for anyone who’s interested).
4. CarPlay icon deletes itself from the shortcuts along the left side of the display.
5. At least 4-5 other anomalies I won’t bother listing.

How the heck can Audi lease a car with known issues like this? I want to bring the car to the dealer tomorrow morning and tell them we need a loaner, and not to call us until they update the software and prove to us that the car will no longer behave this way.

Any insights or suggestions would be great. This is why I stuck with Lexus for ten years and before that Acura for so many years.
Ask your dealer to install TSB 20733711. It changes the behaviour of the speed sign tone to stay off if you select off. No more defaulting to on. Im having it installed on my 2024 Q4 Etron 55 tomorrow and keeping my fingers crossed. I will update after my session tomorrow. BTW, its the law in UK and Germany to default to on, but not in North America

Ehh, it seems to me that many of the complains is about carplay, MMI and entertainment features in the car. Maybe they should have visited a HI-FI dealer instead of a car dealer...don't know...just wonder!
Uhh really, it's too much to expect a $50k+ car to have working features? Every economy-class airport rental I've been in recently has worked flawlessly.

“Infotainment systems” have been the most troublesome part of every car/crossover I have owned in the past 20 years or so. Makes me kind of nostalgic for the blinged-out AM/FM cassette audio of the 70’s-80’s. With 4 speakers! But it really sucked if the tape got jammed.

I don't invest too much in ICIS. A factory FM and a multi-CD player - Nakamichi - or MM, are more than I need. I might change the speakers better than the factory ones - Focal, MB Quart, Nakamichi etc., but I don't spend much beyond that.

IMHO, regardless of how much one spends upgrading the car factory sound system with high-end components, it still wouldn't sound as good as a decent HTS.

Two words: Noise Floor. Better in an EV than an ICE, but still a whole lot noisier than any room in my house. Unless the dogs are barking. Also a rather complex acoustic environment that changes if you insert people and/or luggage into it.

Upgrading factory speakers in modern car audio systems is difficult because of all the electronic equalization and phase shifting. And that's baked into the infotainment system electronics with minimal controls. To do it right, you have to use computerized electronics to undo the factory tuning and then redo it with the new speakers. $$$

But we digress. I was referring to actual glitches and software issues, not lackluster sound quality. I actually think the SONOS system in our Q4 is the best car audio I have ever heard. But I only listen in a car on road trips, and I don't use the Q4 for road trips. Oh well. My wife liked it when she was still commuting to work.

Yep, tons and tons of low frequency noise among other things. FWIW, the Mark Levinson in my Lexus LS is the best I've heard in the most acoustically comfortable car I've driven (including my EVs, and aside for S-Classes). They all still have the same fundamental problem compared to a room: huge noise floor, and you have to pay attention to the road. Wouldn't spend a dime on it personally.

Funnily enough some of the most basic car sound systems have brought me the most enjoyment. 2010 Subaru Forester, and a 2019 BMW X3. Simple setup with few speakers that worked without fiddling, frequency response properly tuned to the cars.

mbh_etron, what is the model/type # of the Q4-eTron?
I leased a '55' SUV (i.e. NOT the Sportback) in early May and had a whole series of weird things happen (most peculiar: time on the MMI clock was wrong - that is, I get in and time was incorrect - by hours; drove, then turned off, then restarted and time OK. This situation would randomly repeat). Also had issues with iPhone connection.
Bottom line: bad 12-volt battery; it was replaced in August. Dealership had the car for a week and, when I picked it up, I was told that there was a 'batch' of bad 12-V batteries installed in a set of cars - I didn't learn what 'build' location, nor time frame, nor what models.
Part of the explanation (excuse?) was that I acquired one of the early 55's (apparently started availability in March-ish 2024 timeframe).
No reoccurrence of problems (so far).
P.S. Like you, currently disappointed in Audi (I had several in the 80s/90s) and especially in the dealership (sales & service).

We get random wanderings of the time displayed on the MMI in our 2022 Q4 50, but the time is always correct on the virtual cockpit display!

Has your 55 settled on a time standard since the new 12V battery?

As for CarPlay, it seems fine with a corded connection. I got tired of wireless causing battles between my wife's phone and my own, and I decided there was no sense endangering a 40+ year relationship over the few seconds to plug in a darn USB cable.

'getmoving', yes, the time on the MMI seems to be fine. I'll make a point to look more regularly and carefully - and LYK,
