"When navigation is inactive, the average of the last 100 kilometers (62.1 miles) is applied to determine drive system consumption. Convenience and climate consumption are also assessed. By turning convenience consumers on and off via the range monitor, users can see their direct impact on the range prognosis."

The above is from "Audi has gone electric" website, Electromobility in Winter topic. A good bit of information specific to Audi e models. Appears to have accurate information. Electromobility in winter-Intelligent functions optimize range and charging performance :: electrichasgoneaudi.net
Assuming that's accurate for the current software revision.

But yes, that's the problem with using range estimates as an indication of state of charge or battery health. We would never say "I filled my Jeep's gas tank to 500 miles". So why would we say that for an EV?

Nobody ever seemed to worry about how their ICE range was calculated. I filled our Q5 45 today, 605 miles to empty. Short trip economy was showing 20, the long term 27. Neither gets me to 605 on an 18.5 gal tank. Nor would I start a 605 mile trip and expect a gas station at mile 604.

Hi - I have just brought a Q8 in May last year - after 3 weeks the SX6 went faulty and they had the car for 60 days and now mine is charging to 166 miles and says its 100% and Audi who have had the car for 2 days - say this is normal as its looking at my dynamic driving use., so if I need to drive 250 miles tomorrow - I can't ! I want to give the keys back as you know these are not cheap cars. I wish I had gone EQC now.

If you have a new Q8 and it’s charging to 166 miles at 100%, that seems really off as it’s a more than 40% drop from the expected range. I assume you are in a cold weather area and that is accounting for a lot of the drop but that still seems off. I live in NJ and my 80% range has averaged around 210 in the winter and I drive on mostly very short trips (about 5 miles or less). If you are in the US, I would look into your state’s lemon law.

Are there two versions of the Q8 in the UK? If so, which do you have?

If the car was in the shop for 60 days, I would wait a little to see if it improves with a few more miles on it. I noticed that they often let the car running with the AC/heater on while just sitting in the shop. Obviously that depends on what they are working on. But the car does not (at least the OG e-trons) seem to register this when it does the efficiency calculations. But it does notice it for the range calculations. So there can be a drop in range as a result. Once you drove a couple hundred miles, things may normalize and you see more realistic range estimations.

it was with Audi for 60 days in June after I picked the car up after 3 weeks. of having the car, apparently it was a faulty SX6 which was replaced.

Hi! Welcome to my world. If you look up what I posted - exactly the same thing. Short answer to your question if there something wrong is yes. First off it is on Audi - I am yet to see a Q8 charge to 285 miles. So in effect they are selling cars that don't charge as stated - ours charges to 247 at 77F. If you live in a colder climate, though, you can't even get to 247. Mind you, you can't find 247 in any of the documentation - our dealer apparently wrote 247 on windshield (!?) So for those of us who trust Audi to tell us if the battery performance is not where it needs be - tough luck. Also - you will see that once you start driving, the performance is also not as advertised. And then, if you not only see you won't be able to charge the car to 285, but it takes double the time to charge to 80% with the fastest chargers - you were told 20-30 mins, it takes an hour. When we tried to return the car for lack of battery performance, we were told the car lost $25K in less than two weeks and under 1K miles.
Here's what I am hoping to do - find a few folks like us (as many as I can), so we can make Audi and their dealers accountable for misleading their customers, who have trusted their cars for year. Let me know if you are interested in doing the same.
Yes, if Audi is lying, a class action is in order, get the lawyer to work, l am in.

RecurrentAuto has been monitoring the miles driven and charge on my 2024 Q8 etron sportback here in the Portland, OR, area for over a year now (July 2023 through Aug 2024). Here is a summary of the predicted range for the car for a year in PNW weather (roughly hi/low of 40/30 winter and 90/60 summer). I'm guessing the spread is narrowest for July and August because there is data for both 2023 and 2024 for those months. I don't do anything special to maximize my efficiency--regular A/C the way I like it, no economy driving mode or program, no keeping the speed limit (oops!). I do play around with hypermiling. The results are very much in keeping with the EPA value:

I purchased a 2024 Audi Q8 Etron about 2 weeks ago. 2024 model is supposed to have a range of 285 miles. I know that it is recommended to charge to 80% not 100% to prolong the life of the battery. But when I charge to 80% it says I have a range of 201 miles. 201 miles is 80% of 250 miles not 285. In fact I charged it to 90% and it said my range was 225 which again is not 90% of 285 it is again 90% of 250. Right now it’s says 191 miles range which is 76% of 250. I made sure the rear temperature control is set to off. Why is the range is not adding up? Is there something wrong with my battery after just 2 weeks ?
Place the driving mode to Efficiency and drive with a goal of at least 3.1 miles per kilowatt hour.

I have 2024 Q8 Etron Sportback with terrible range since day one. I get worse range than you, at 80% I get 163 and at 100% 194.

Currently fighting with Audi USA on a fix, I want my 2030 Audi Q8 Sport back that I had previous to this car. The car it’s self is amazing, gorgeous with the new wheels I bought….electric part leaves plenty to be desired.

Couldn't agree with this more. Love the car, hate the range - i'm only getting 160miles from a 100% charge although it's particularily cold (-2degC) here (UK) currently. Here is a pic of it in it's natural habitat. I was playing with the suspension settings in the different pics.
