Theres many threads recently re Tesla Supercharger access so thought Id share my choice experience for long distance trips which I do frequently given rural location.

#1 home charging; by far the easiest and cheapest if you have the room at home and available electrical access for a charger. I almost always use the myAudi app timer to charge overnight unless I arrive home on very low SOC and may need to go out in a short time frame then reset the app for immediate charge. The downside is its L2 charging so relative slow charge.......if really needed Id head to the most local L3 fast charger.

#2 CCS public L3 fast chargers; work well with some very high power units so fast charging. The chargers have improved in availability and reliability so on longer trips far from home are 1st choice over home. Downside is the cost is typical +5x home $$.

#3 Tesla Supercharger; yes they do work on our Q4s with an adapter (I use A2Z) and the Tesla app. The recent availability provides another reliable option when on long trips and is 2nd choice over home. Downside again is cost where Ive paid +8x home $$.

I havent stayed overnight at hotels with L2 chargers but if available I would use them so start the day with a good SOC.

L1 charging with the included (is it still?) Audi charger works if stranded and in an emergency but extremely slow.

The ability to go long distance trips has come very far since starting my EV journey in March '23 and at this rate will get even easier to the point it where newer models and technology the charging capability will be a non topic...........except for the cost which should balance out over time.

The Tesla app map shows where local Tesla chargers are located and number of chargers available. Selecting a site then provides details as to if the location supports NACS charging and the vehicle brands. In my location in Alberta, Canada the Tesla sites are relatively new so do not have the early versions of Superchargers.
At this time Im not aware of the apps ability to ID the version type but as above do state if they support NACS so are then either V3/V4..........the several Tesla sites that Ive visited and successfully charged have had V3 or V4 chargers.

I believe the older Superchargers are being replaced with the latest versions; V4s have much longer charge cable and can easily reach Q4 charge port which are opposite to the Tesla charge location.

I want to play too!

1. I have almost exclusively charged at my home on a hardwired ChargePoint Level 2 charger. It charges at about 8.5 kw/h and costs about $7 to go from 20% to 80% charged. Plug it in at night (about once every five days for me) and it's ready to go in the morning.

2. Last weekend I went to the local outlet mall and they had eight newly installed Mercedes Level 3 chargers (that no one knows about yet). My Q4 was at just below 50% and decided to give my first L3 charge a shot. Plugged it in, tapped my apple pay, and went into a store. 15 mins later, my watch beeped and told me the charge was complete to 80%. It charged at 80.1 kw/min and cost $10. There is a price for speed, but it's good to know there is a fast option nearby.

3. I have a 2025 Q4, but haven't tried a Tesla charger yet. There is a Tesla dealership less than a mile from me. I don't think I need an adaptor, but when I set up the Tesla app, the Q4 was not available. Should I try a Ford Mustang or Audi Q6 instead? I would hate to fry my car because of lack of patience.

Summary: It's getting way easier to find compatible chargers and "charging anxiety" will soon be a thing we tell our grandchildren about. If I had grandchildren, I would tell them about the credit card imprinters and that I paid 59.9 cents per gallon for the first tank of gas I purchased.

In some remote areas of the vast US I get range anxiety in a gasoline fueled vehicle. With cause.

There are thousands of “ghost gas stations” that went out of business as car travel concentrated on Interstate Highways and chain convenience stores replaced the repair garage/gas station of Route 66 fame.

I suspect the sparse sprinkle of EV charging stations on the map will take many decades to fill in, irrespective of what happens along major urban corridors. And I’m not sure stand-alone EV charging stations will fare any better than stand-alone gas pumps.

Does that make me a Luddite or just a realist? 🤷🏼‍♂️

The Audi Adapter for Tesla Superchargers has been release in the US for $200.
Just looked up part # at local dealership; product not available...........perhaps country specific.

Any indication who the manufacturer is? guessing Lectron as most, if not all other CCS EV manufacturers have went with them.

One of the YouTubers who does a lot of testing on charging equipment and so on, tested the Porsche version of the adapter when it came out a month or so ago. He said he was practically certain that it was lectron. They are almost completely identical.

im still new to this ev q4. love how much better and cheaper this car is for driving around. no more gas costs. electricity is so much more affordable in socal.

i extensively charge at my place. never used the outside charger. dont have a need for it. also i only charge up to 50% 90+percent of the time. rarely do i need to go into the 60-80%. did that a few times tho. was worried a weekend would need it but it didnt. so i ended up not charging it again for another couple of days. never let it go below 20% either. whenever im home i always plug in. so its topped off at 50% for each trip. i know that if i keep that up the battery should be well maintained. over charging and letting it sit would have some unneeded damage to the longevity of the lithium pack.

its just better to keep at half way and not let extra charge sit. but do charge it up if the intended use is there right away.

cant wait to see the new q2 ev coming in 2027. supposed to have the same battery pack as this car and lesser power. 282hp? but that will allow for a little more range. but for me it wouldnt really matter for me.
