Yes the range (is said to be) less, cabin slightly smaller along with boot. But here atleast, as I said, like for like it is cheaper. You also get nav, domestic charge cable, forward pdc, electric memory seat for driver, run flat tyres and rear face ventilation included - which are not on my Q4. Adding those would make my Q4 even more expensive.

One surprising benefit to the Q4 is the real world range. 270 miles in the US at 70 degrees F. Audi states that it is 236 miles. The chart below may be helpful.

Here in the US BMW is a better company than Audi in terms of addressing problems quickly and the customer experience.

Oddly the boot is bigger!

It has 2.5 cm more ground clearance and offers 8% more cargo space.4,5

I was confused by that too.

This is made very confusing.

I am talking about the MK3 X1 generation U11, recently launched. It does use the common base, and following BMW's current philosophy is being offered in all power versions. The iX1 30 (I find no record of a 50 version quoted) is indeed the electric version but because of this there are obviously some changes necessary. The need to hide the battery, for instance, cuts the boot space from 592l to 490l. I took this from the BMW site.
The launch version is only available with a 64kWh battery and 4 wheel drive.

And shows how you cannot trust much these days.

Indeed, let us know what you decide to do in the end. The BMW is pretty tempting. If you can wait a bit longer though, you might be able to get a Polestar 4 which is my current potential future car.

I started this thread with the title Q4 Poor product - nice car. What will Audi do?

No surprises, I now know – absolutely nothing, zero, nil, nought.

Audi don’t care about their customers’; they certainly don’t want to hear from them.

Following 9 1/2 months waiting for delivery faults to be attended to and with not one attempted, I asked my Dealer to take back the car for a full refund.
He offered me a second hand purchase price of £11,000 less than I paid or a trade in for a new Q4 for £7,000 less.

Clearly, he is not offering to make good the faulty car that was supplied plus, any Dealer can offer me these deals. Nor does he understand that I will never buy an Audi again, let alone swap my Q4 for another one!

Quoted delivery was down to 3-4 months; perhaps everyone else has heard the news: Q4 Unbuyable product.

You may wish to get a lawyer to write a proper letter to your country’s Audi manager. And address the same letter to your dealership. And write your country’s federal regulatory agency for cars.

In the US it has been shown in surveys, that if you carry a AR-15 Assault Rifle to a meeting at your dealership to discuss dispute resolution that one gets better service.

4 weeks slipped past since the last software update no show so I thought I would chase up my Dealer. As it will soon be 1 year since production, I told him I was going to arrange a birthday party and was there anyone he wanted me to invite? I thought he might want to bring me a present of a working car!

His MD wrote back (yes he can write if he wants to) instructing me to refrain from writting to his staff in this way - as they have already explained to me that it is not thier fault and they have no control over the situation. And by the way, that there will be further (unspecified) delays as Audi takes any new 'findings' very seriously.

The MD was victim shaming. It easy for him to encourage patience in response to Audi incompetence and shameful behavior on the Q4e.

it is obvious why Audi brought out the Q4 eTron first in Europe and much later in the US after the Q4 was refined. Over half of the US population is heavily armed.

I have a 2019 etron quattro, so was on this Forum when the Q4 was first introduced. I definitely got the impression that at the time of the European introduction the Q4 etron was "not fully baked" and should have been delayed.

Nice thread resurrection. 👻

ID.4/ID.5 Have you driven one? Interior quality is another big step down, controls are a joke, software is even worse than Audi's. Maybe some of this improved with the refresh, but it had a long way to go. OTOH ID.4 may now be the only thing VAG can sell in the US since they are built in a US factory for the US market ( but with parts from all over the planet... ).

I'm not sure what's going to happen with Audi and VAG going forward, but I agree they need to set their baseline higher. Porsche can't carry the company alone.

Nice to know, but to be honest I have long had problems with CR's definitions of both "luxury" and "SUV".

IMHO Q4 is a near-luxury EV crossover. ( Irrespective of the nameplate ). But at least it's pretty. And it does drive well ( with ME driving it... ). I'm old enough to remember shopping for a car based on how it drove. Can you imagine?

I basically agree with you. I test drove a Q4 and liked how it handled, but the cabin fit and finish came up a bit short of luxury. When I read the article, I was a bit surprised at the low rating CR gave the Rivian--you hear so much hype about it. They did not like its implementation of One-Pedal driving, saying that the car was too abrupt in acceleration and slowing, leading to a "jerky" ride. So, basically, I think you are in agreement with CR--they really liked how the Q4 drove (a lot of the other subratings for the Q4 were average or below).
