I notice that this article talks about having over the air updates. Really ? I think that feature missed many of our vehicles. 🙄
Well, that is pretty much a problem with EV reviews. Reviewers toss around terms without really investigating what it means with regard to a specific EV. The expectation is that EV's are like ICE vehicles and that all the cars are pretty similar. They talk about the regen without detailing how it is utilized in a specific model, for example. "Regen" just isn't "Regen".

I’m actually surprised there has not been a class action lawsuit launched about OTA. There must be enough documented marketing fluff that alluded to functionality we clearly don’t have.
The problem is, as usual they have been ambiguous with their explanation of what they intended to deliver. Yes documents state car updates, but it doesn’t say a full system update.

Honestly, if BMW can update their vehicles UI through OTA updates (since 2019, I believe), so can Audi.

It's not new. It's not rocket science.

What they really need to do is stop touting it as a feature if they're never actually going to use it.

With respect this is not a BMW, and whilst OTA updates are not new the platform is. You could argue that their actions regardless of if I agree with it or not, is one of a sensible approach to ensure that the upgrade process goes well and doesn't brick the car.

As an example, Apple took years to update things wirelessly and not through iTunes or Finder for the same reason. To ensure that the product updates fully and reduce issues that users have.

I do agree however that they should make it clear what is included in the MMI updates and if they intend to do a full car update OTA in the future or not. I would make a guess that from the day my SQ6 was built and an SQ6 being built today there's been many modifications or the evolution of parts meaning that a one update fits all doesn't really work yet. If you look at the inconsistencies in the issues still being reported, such as..

Some users have their alarms randomly going off, yet others dont
Some users have issues with car keeping a connection to phones, some don't
Some users have issue with the noise in their cabin, others don't
Some users have issues with the HUD, but some don't

My point is, the car is far from perfect but better than it was, and trying to do a full OTA update before they address many outstanding issues could be even more problematic.

Agreed. I had a salesman tell me the OTA updates are better than Tesla and you will never have to visit the dealership. Right. I also note that he is no longer there.

Audi really needs to reign in their sales people and quit promoting OTA dishonestly. They also need to hire some software people to put this train back on the track. Far too many software derailments. 🙄

Bottom line, don't sell or allow the car to be sold with this feature.

It's not capable and it's not being used.

It's a class-action waiting to happen if they keep this **** up.

I’m not disagreeing, I’m just saying it as it is. This is not the first time Audi have over promised and under delivered, you’ll find that other models are still waiting for features promised such as plug and play.

I’m not entirely sure Audi care that much about it either, it becomes a blame game of “waiting for an update”

Unfortunately there are many long term Audi owners that have started to look elsewhere. Just as upsetting there are many new Audi owners that have sworn off the brand and trying to get a buy back. This not how to grow a brand.

It would be nice if Audi commissioned some customer service people to frequent these forums and read the room. Then take the comments back to head office and do something to mitigate the damage. I would like the brand to survive and thrive but I don’t have optimism. This is a competitive market and other brands will eat their lunch if they don’t get their act together.

I totally agree, however it’s their mindset and it doesn't stop at retail level but executive level which is why it won’t change.

Quite right - speaking as a first time Audi driver I’m not as impressed as I was expecting / hoping to be and it’s not just software issues (mind you I didn’t have a great experience with Mercedes either - these so-called premium German car brands really aren’t all that in my experience!)

Audi makes or breaks with the success of their shareholders. When they start losing market share and dollars the executive ranks at Ingolstadt will be cut. Then some new management will be in control. Maybe we are heading in that direction now. 😀

By digging into the published literature and specs....do your homework. You want to see it in writing. Regarding "OTA", there is no official definition, so it can mean anything.
Published literature and specs really mean nothing. Once they have your money they are free to do what they want. Unlike us they have lots of lawyers ready to bleed you financially if you go in that direction.

Just as a side note. Audi updates maps OTA sooooo technically not wrong.
Cadillac started that a few years ago with the CUE system and they could flash headlamp software to the cars but not firmware on the head units for whatever reason. Personally OEMs purchase units from suppliers typically and skin them to be their version that’s why a lot of the interiors have started looking the same.

I don’t trust an OEM to push an OTA update out. Look at how well it works for cell phones. Who wants that in their life. I’d rather it go to the dealer and if they break it they have to deal with it rather than it being broken in my driveway or elsewhere.

I get the frustration of having to visit a dealership, this is the first year first production, etc. fastest way to break any thing is to give it to a consumer. As much testing that’s done ahead of time nothing compares to getting it out to the public.

I have never had a problem with updates to my IPhone. I don’t let it update automatically so I have control. I also wait a few days to make sure any problem is out in the open. This process has served me well.

Lucky man. Going from the 13 pro max to a 16 pro max almost broke my brain. Audi has their work cut out for these.

Check your phone next time you get in the car let me know if you see a 5ghz network under the WiFi. I think my phone and car aren’t liking the different network names for my CarPlay.
